Abstract

Books have undergone an evolution from print format to digital format. The limitations of digital books are answered by the physical book format in terms of shape, pages and layout format. Graffiti culture is very strong in print culture, such as stickers, photos, books and magazines. In graffiti, books are used as a medium for biographical information or contain archives of graffiti works. This design will combine the principles of layout, book anatomy, and also techniques from graffiti. The design method used is collecting data about graffiti, biographies, layouts and interviews. From the data collected, there are conditions that are binding on books, expressions that are "free" from graffiti and also biographical descriptions, namely life history and work history. Next, the data that has been collected is presented with a design concept that has graffiti elements and techniques. The results of this design show that there is a book format and shape that can be expressed freely but still prioritizes the rules of layout, such as the presence of insert pages and also the presence of pages made with a gatefold concept. Apart from that, it is also hoped that the results of this design can provide a contribution and reference to graffiti artists in creating a book about biographies. The book is designed to have a graffiti concept and atmosphere but still pay attention to readability so that it can be easily understood by the target audience. It is hoped that the design of this book can be a trigger for graffiti artists to create a book that has various formats and also a more attractive layout. Keywords: Books, Graffiti, Biography, Layout Buku telah mengalami evolusi dari format cetak keformat digital. Keterbatasan buku digital terjawab dengan format buku fisik dari bentuk, halaman, serta format layout. kultur graffiti sangat kental dalam budaya cetak mencetak seperti stiker, foto buku dan majalah. Dalam graffiti, buku dijadikan sebagai media informasi tentang biografi atau berisikan arsip karya-karya graffiti. Perancangan ini akan menggabungkan antara prinsip-prinsip dari layout, anatomi buku, dan juga teknikteknik dari graffiti. Metode perancangan yang digunakan adalah pengumpulan data tentang graffiti, biografi, layout serta wawancara. Dari data yang dikumpulkan terdapat syarat yang mengikat pada buku, ekspresi “bebas” graffiti dan juga pembabakan biografi yaitu riwayat hidup dan riwayat karya. Selanjutnya data yang telah tekumpul disajikan dengan konsep peracangan yang memiliki unsur serta teknik graffiti. Hasil dari perancangan ini menunjukan adanya format dan bentuk buku yang bisa diekspresikan dengan bebas namun tetap mengedepankan kaidah-kaidah dari layout seperti adanya halaman sisipan dan juga adanya halaman yang dibuat dengan konsep gatefold. Selain itu diharapkan juga hasil dari perancangan ini dapat memberikan kontribusi serta referensi kepada pelaku graffiti dalam membuat sebuah buku perihal biografi. Buku yang dirancang memiliki konsep dan suasana graffiti namun tetap memperhatikan keterbacaannya sehingga dapat dipahami dengan mudah oleh target audiens. Diharapkan, perancangan buku ini dapat menjadi pemicu kepada para pelaku graffiti untuk membuat sebuah buku yang memiliki berbagai format dan juga layout yang lebih menarik.
