Abstract
Social class is the existence of social differences or stratification between individuals or groups in society. The existence of social classes in society can influence their rights, opportunities and welfare. An example of a film that raises the issue of social class is the film Snowpiercer. This research aims to find out and analyze the meaning of social class contained in the film, using qualitative methods with a critical paradigm and through Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis approach, namely two-stage signification, denotation and connotation, so that through these connotations findings and myths can be found in that meaning. The primary data collection technique is in the form of documentation and secondary in the form of observation with 5 units of analysis, namely scenes, shots, dialogue, costumes and color elements. The results of the analysis found 3 scenes and 9 shot scenes in the film Snowpiercer which showed that there were dialogues, scenes, costumes and colors that contained social classes between the upper and lower classes. Keywords : Social class, film, semiotics Kelas sosial merupakan adanya perbedaan atau stratifikasi sosial antara individu atau kelompok dalam masyarakat. Dengan adanya kelas sosial di dalam masyarakat dapat memepengaruhi hak, kesempatan, dan kesejahteraan mereka.. Contoh film yang mengangkat isu kelas sosial merupakan film Snowpiercer. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis makna kelas sosial yang terdapat dalam film tersebut, dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan paradigma kritis serta melalui pendekatan analisis semiotika Roland Barthes yaitu signifikasi dua tahap, denotasi dan konotasi, sehingga melalui konotasi tersebut ditemukan temuan-temuan dan mitos pada makna tersebut. Teknik pengumpulan data primer berupa dokumentasi serta sekunder berupa observasi dengan 5 unit analisis yaitu berupa scene, shot, dialog, kostum, dan unsur warna. Hasil dari analisis ditemukan 3 scene dan 9 shot adegan pada film Snowpiercer yang menunjukan adanya dialog, adegan, konstum, serta warna yang mengandung kelas sosial antara kelas atas dan kelas bawah.
