Abstract

This research aims to determine whether there is a relationship between Self-Control and Verbal Aggression in young adults who follow/read anonymous news accounts on Instagram. Data was taken from a sample of 385 young adults who followed or read anonymous news accounts on Instagram, both men and women. The age criteria for early adulthood in this study was 18–35 years old. The measuring instruments used in this research are Self-Control, which consists of 27 items, and Verbal Aggression, which consists of 30 items. The technique used to take samples is the accidental sampling technique. The results of the normality test on the verbal aggression variable in this study were declared abnormal, so to test the hypothesis the researcher used the Spearman's rho correlation technique. The results show that there is a significant negative relationship between self-control and verbal aggression with a value of r = -0.762. This shows that the higher the self-control, the lower the verbal aggressive behavior in young adults who follow/read anonymous news accounts on Instagram social media. Keywords: Verbal Aggression, Self-control, Early Adulthood, Instagram Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat hubungan antara Kontrol Diri dengan Agresi Verbal pada dewasa awal yang mengikuti/membaca akun berita anonim di instagram. Data diambil dari sampel sebanyak 385 dewasa awal yang megikuti atau membaca akun berita anonim di instagram baik laki-laki maupun perempua, adapun kriteria umur dewasa awal pada penelitian ini yaitu usia 18-35 tahun. Alat ukur yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Kontrol diri yang terdiri dari 27 item dan Agresi Verbal yang terdiri dari 30 item. Teknik yang digunakan untuk mengambil sampel yaitu teknik accidental sampling. Hasil uji normlitas pada variabel agresi verbal pada penelitian ini dinyatakan tidak normal maka untuk menguji hipotesa peneliti menggunakan teknik korelasi Spearman’rho. Hasil menunjukan bahwa terdapat hubungan negatif signifikan antara kontrol diri dengan agresi verbal dengan nilai r = -0,762. Hal tersebut menunjukan bahwa semakin tinggi kontrol diri maka semakin rendah perilaku agresi verbal pada dewasa awal yang mengikuti/membaca akun berita anonim di media sosial instagram.
