Abstract

Communication Patterns are processes that designed to represent the reality of the interconnectedness of the elements covered and their continuity in order to facilitate systematic and logical thinking (Effendy, 1989). The purpose of this research is to determine the communication patterns of singing instructors applied to Mercu Buana University Student Choir. The method that used in this research is an ethnographic communication study with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews The results of the research shows that the communication pattern applied by the voice arts instructor at the Mercu Buana University Student Choir is two-way communication, in accordance with a democratic and flexible leadership style. In more depth, the communication patterns applied to the Mercu Buana Choir UKM are paying attention to communication activity units in accordance with the theory of Communication Ethnography which includes communication situations, communication events which include the SPEAKING component by Dell Hymes (Setting, Participant, Ends, Act Sequence, Keys, Instrument , Norms, and Genre), and Communication Actions applied to the choir rehearsal process in the 2023 Annual Concert work program to find out more about the communication codes used in the Mercu Buana University Choir UKM rehearsal process. Keywords: Communication Patterns, Communication Ethnography, SME Choir Pola Komunikasi adalah proses yang dirancang untuk mewakili kenyataan keterkaitannya unsur-unsur yang dicakup beserta keberlangsungannya, guna memudahkan pemikirannya secara sistematik dan logis (Effendy, 1989). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pola komunikasi instruktur seni suara yang diaplikasikan kepada kelompok UKM Paduan Suara Mahasiswa Universitas Mercu Buana. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi etnografi komunikasi dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pola komunikasi yang diaplikasikan oleh instruktur seni suara pada UKM Paduan Suara Mahasiswa Universitas Mercu Buana merupakan komunikasi dua arah, sesuai dengan gaya kepemimpinan yang demokratis dan fleksibel. Secara lebih dalam, pola komunikasi yang diaplikasikan pada UKM Paduan Suara Mercu Buana memperhatikan unit aktivitas komunikasi sesuai dengan teori Etnografi Komunikasi yang meliputi situasi komunikasi, peristiwa komunikasi yang meliputi komponen SPEAKING oleh Dell Hymes (Setting, Participant, Ends, Act Sequence, Keys, Instrument, Norms, and Genre), dan Tindakan Komunikasi yang diaplikasikan pada proses latihan paduan suara pada program kerja Konser Annual 2023 untuk mengetahui lebih dalam mengenai kode-kode komunikasi yang digunakan dalam proses latihan UKM Paduan Suara Universitas Mercu Buana.
