Abstract

The Korean Wave, particularly through K-Pop music, has not only influenced the tastes and paradigms of teenagers but also various aspects of daily life. With a focus on music videos (MV) as a crucial element in building the brand image of the K-Pop industry, the article details that MVs are not just entertainment but also effective marketing tools for introducing the image and branding of artists. The research aims to explore the signs and meanings related to the brand image that the Music Video of EXO's "MAMA" can create. Thus, the study titled "K-Pop Brand Image in YouTube Videos (Semiotic Analysis on EXO's Music Video MAMA)" is conducted with the rationale of understanding how the brand image of K-Pop, particularly the group EXO, is constructed and reinforced through semiotic elements in MVs. To support this research, five relevant previous studies in the field of communication are considered, covering topics such as Communication, Public Relations, Brand Image, K-Pop History, Color, Music Videos, YouTube, and Ferdinand De Saussure's semiotic theory. This research adopts a constructivist paradigm and a qualitative method with the Ferdinand De Saussure semiotic approach. Data analysis includes the identification of signs and symbols, analysis of denotation and connotation, and attention to the visual and narrative context in the MV. The findings of this research summarize that the brand image of EXO is built through both verbal and non-verbal communication. In the verbal aspect, the uniqueness of each group member is portrayed as they unite to create something extraordinary. EXO aspires to be a group that brings freshness and uniqueness to the entertainment world, as reflected in the concept of the "MAMA" music video. Meanwhile, in the non-verbal aspect, elements are designed to create a mysterious, captivating, unique, futuristic, and dramatic impression. Keywords: Semiotics, Brand Image, K-pop, Music Video, Youtube Korean Wave atau gelombang Korea, terutama melalui musik K-Pop, yang memengaruhi tidak hanya selera dan paradigma remaja, tetapi juga berbagai aspek kehidupan sehari-hari. Fokus pada music video (MV) sebagai elemen penting dalam membangun citra merek industri K-Pop, artikel tersebut merinci bahwa MV bukan hanya hiburan semata, melainkan juga alat pemasaran efektif untuk memperkenalkan citra dan branding artis. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui terkait tanda dan makna citra Music Video EXO dapat membangun brand image. Oleh karena itu, penelitian berjudul "Citra Merek K-Pop Dalam Video Youtube (Analisis Semiotika Pada Video Music EXO MAMA)" dilakukan dengan latar belakang rasionalisasi untuk memahami lebih dalam bagaimana citra merek K-Pop, khususnya grup EXO, dibangun dan diperkuat melalui elemen-elemen semiotika dalam MV. Untuk mendukung penelitian ini, terdapat lima penelitian terdahulu dengan topic yang relavan dalam bidang komunikasi, dengan itu untuk teori-teori yag digunakan meliputi Komunikasi, Public Relations, Citra Merek, Sejarah K-pop, Warna , Video Musik, Youtube dan teori semiotika Ferdinand De Saussure. Penelitian ini mengadopsi paradigma konstruktivisme dan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan semiotika Ferdinand De Saussure. Analisis data mencakup identifikasi tanda dan simbol, analisis denotasi dan konotasi, serta perhatian terhadap konteks visual dan naratif dalam MV. Hasil penelitian ini m rangkum bahwa citra merek EXO dibangun melalui komunikasi verbal dan non-verbal. Dalam aspek verbal, tergambar keunikan setiap anggota grup yang bersatu untuk menciptakan sesuatu yang luar biasa, EXO memiliki ambisi menjadi grup yang menghadirkan kesegaran dan keunikan dalam dunia hiburan, sebagaimana tercermin dalam konsep musik video "MAMA". Sementara itu, dalam aspek non-verbal, elemen-elemen didesain untuk menciptakan kesan misterius, menarik, unik, futuristik, dan dramatis.
