Abstract

Hedonistic lifestyle is an approach to life that emphasizes the pursuit of happiness. As films often serve as a medium representing hedonistic lifestyles, one example is the film "Perfect Strangers." This film was released in 2022 on the Prime Video subscription-based streaming service. Therefore, this research aims to interpret how the hedonistic lifestyle is portrayed in the film. The film is analyzed through the lens of Roland Barthes' semiotic theory, known for its denotative-connotative apparatus and myths. Signs in the film are dissected gradually to extract the meaning of the message and uncover the myths hidden behind the ideologies contained in the film. This research adopts a constructivist paradigm, employing qualitative content analysis to observe and understand the meaning of social reality regarding a phenomenon. The results of the semiotic text analysis reveal that "Perfect Strangers" depicts various forms of the pursuit of happiness in materialistic, aesthetic, intellectual, emotional, social, and intellectual aspects reflected in the daily lives and behaviors of the film's characters. The representation of hedonism found in each main character tends to lean towards individual attitudes, neglecting ethical aspects and prevailing norms. Keywords: Hedonism, Semiotics, Film, Consumerism Gaya Hidup Hedonisme merupakan suatu pendekatan terhadap kehidupan yang menekankan pada upaya pencarian kebahagiaan. Sebagaimana film seringkali menjadi medium yang merepresentasikan gaya hidup hedonisme, salah satunya adalah film Perfect Strangers. Film ini tayang pada tahun 2022 pada layanan streaming video berbasis langganan Prime Video. Maka dari itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memaknai bagiamana gaya hidup hedonisme ditampilkan dalam film tersebut. Film dianalisis melalui kaca mata imliah semiotika dari Roland Barthes, yang dikenal dengan perangkat denotatif konotatif, dan mitosnya. Tanda-tanda dalam iklan diteletik secara bertahap untuk memperoleh makna pesan dan juga membongkar mitos yang bersembunyi di balik ideologi yang terkandung dalam film. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma konstruktivis, dengan jenis penelitian isi kualitatif untuk melihat dan memahami makna realitas sosial terhadap suatu fenomena. Hasil dari analisis teks semiotika ditemukan bahwa film Perfect Strangers menunjukkan berbagai bentuk upaya pencarian kebahagiaan pada aspek materialistik, estetik, intelektual, emosional, sosial, dan intelektual yang tercermin dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dan perilaku dari para karakter film. Representasi hedonisme yang ditemukan pada setiap karakter utama film, cenderung kepada sikap individual dari setiap karakter dan tidak memikirkan aspek etika dan norma-norma yang berlaku.
