Abstract

Film as a literary work can be used as a medium of communication. One of them is a film entitled Million Dollar Arm which has a Truly Moving Picture Award in 2014. Focusing on a biopic of a young Indian who tries to achieve his dream as a baseball athlete in Uncle Sam's country. This film has a forward plot with a very thick Indian cultural treat. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with Roland Barthes semiotic analysis with cinematic elements, Mise En Scene, Mise En Shot, and Cinematography. The purpose of this study is to determine the cinematic elements of the portrayal of Indian society in the Million dollar Arm Film by emphasizing the meaning of denotation, connotation, and myth. The results of this study show that the surviving Indian society is very traditional. Accustomed to living with cows, noisy horns, and Indian culture that is still well preserved. Many eastern figures, as well as very high motivation make Indian society become one of the superior people in the world in several fields, one of which is the field of sports. Keyword: Roland Barthes semiotics, community depiction, Million Dollar Arm, India Film sebagai karya sastra dapat dijadikan sebagai media komunikasi. Salah satunya adalah film yang berjudul Million Dollar Arm yang memiliki penghargaan Truly Moving Picture Award pada tahun 2014. Berfokus pada film biografi anak muda India yang berusaha meraih impian sebagai atlet baseball di negeri paman Sam. Film ini memiliki alur maju dengan suguhan budaya India yang sangat kental. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan analisis semiotika Roland Barthes dengan unsur sinematika, Mise En Scene, Mise En Shot, dan Sinematografi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui unsur sinematik penggambaran masyarakat India pada Film Million dollar Arm dengan menekankan pada makna denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat India yang masih hidup sangat tradisional. Terbiasa hidup dengan sapi, suara klakson yang bising, serta budaya India yang masih dilestarikan dengan baik. Banyak sosok yang ketimuran, serta motivasi yang sangat tinggi membuat masyarakat India menjadi salah satu masyaarakat yang unggul di dunia dalam beberapa bidang salah satuny adalah bidang olah raga.
