Abstract
Film is one of the most popular mass communication media today. An interesting storyline and good sound effects are one of the reasons the audience doesn't get bored and doesn't need to imagine like reading a book. The film The Battleship Island by director Ryoo Seung-Wan, which was released in 2017, became one of the popular films in South Korea. This film is a film based on a true story that tells the events of Korean prisoners who were imprisoned and treated cruelly by the Japanese during World War II. This study uses a constructivist paradigm, using a qualitative approach and analysis of Pierce's semiotic theory which consists of three important aspects or triangle meaning. As for the unit of analysis, there are 11 scenes that represent signs of patriotism, including resilience and tenacity, leadership, warrior spirit, courage, peace-loving, self-sacrifice, pioneer spirit, and responsibility. Then broken down using three aspects of Cinematography elements including; Artistic, Cinematic, and Narrative. The results of the study divided the scenes of patriotism into three categories, namely Artistic, Cinematic and Narrative. In the artistic element, the value of patriotism is represented through background elements, costumes, and make-up effects. Cinematic elements are represented using medium close up and medium long shots. Narrative elements are represented through dialogue and also facial expressions. Keywords : Film, Patriotism, Representation, Pierce’s Semiotics, Cinematography Film merupakan salah satu media komunikasi massa yang paling populer saat ini. Alur cerita yang menarik dan efek suara yang bagus menjadi salah satu alasan penonton tidak bosan dan tidak perlu berimajinasi seperti membaca buku. Film The Battleship Island karya sutradara Ryoo Seung-Wan yang rilis pada tahun 2017, menjadi salah satu film populer di Korea Selatan. Film ini merupakan film yang diangkat dari kisah nyata yaitu menceritakan peristiwa tahanan asal Korea yang dipenjara dan diperlakukan secara Kejam oleh Jepang saat perang dunia ke II. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma konstruktivitis, dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan analisis teori semiotik Pierce yang terdiri dari tiga aspek penting atau triangle meaning. Adapun unit analisisnya terdapat 11 scene yang merepresentasikan tanda nilai patriotisme, meliputi Tahan uji dan ulet, Kepemimpinan, Berjiwa Satria, Sikap Keberanian, Cinta damai, Rela berkorban, Berjiwa Pelopor, Tanggung Jawab. Kemudian dipecah menggunakan tiga aspek dari elemen Sinematografi meliputi; Artistik, Sinematik, dan Naratif. Hasil penelitian membagi scene adegan nilai patriotisme menjadi tiga kategori yaitu Artistik, Sinematik dan Naratif. Pada unsur artistik nilai patriotisme direpresentasikan melalui elemen latar, kostum, makeup effek. Unsur Sinematik direpresentasikan menggunakan medium close up dan medium long shot. Unsur naratif direpresentasikan melalui dialog dan juga ekspresi wajah. Kata Kunci : Film, Patriotisme, Representasi, Semiotik Pierce, sinematografi
