Abstract

The Hong Bird is a mythological animal that is believed by the Chinese as the "King of All Birds" and is also a symbol of repelling evil. The Hong Bird is often paired with the Dragon, with the Dragon as a symbol of the "Yang" nature, the Hong Bird is a symbol of the "Yin" nature. The dragon symbol has the meaning of might and is used as a symbol of the Emperor or King. The symbol of the hong bird has the meaning of tenderness and elegance, and is used as a symbol of the Empress or Queen. The use of the hong bird and dragon symbol can be seen at weddings, where the bride's dress has a hong bird motif. The use of the hong bird motif on the bride's dress can be seen in the wedding customs of the Chinese tribe and also the traditional customs of the Betawi tribe. To make a different touch, the author has the idea of using the hong bird as inspiration in designing a wedding dress based on the meaning and philosophy of the hong bird, and using the Pleat Technique in the design. Keywords: Hong Bird, Wedding Dress, Pleat Technique Burung Hong merupakan hewan mitologi yang dipercaya oleh suku Tionghoa sebagai “Raja dari Segala Burung” dan juga simbol penolak bala. Burung Hong sering dipasangkan dengan Naga, dengan Naga sebagai perlambangan sifat “Yang” maka Burung Hong merupakan perlambangan dari sifat “Yin”. Simbol naga memiliki arti keperkasaan dan digunakan sebagai lambang Kaisar atau Raja. Simbol burung hong memiliki arti kelembutan dan keanggunan, dan digunakan sebagai lambang Permaisuri atau Ratu. Penggunaan simbol burung hong dan naga ini bisa dilihat pada acara pernikahan, diamana Gaun Pengantin wanita memiliki motif burung hong. Penggunaan motif burung hong pada gaun pengantin wanita ini bisa dilihat pada adat pernikahan suku Tionghoa dan juga adat tradisional suku Betawi. Untuk membuat sentuhan yang berbeda, penulis memiliki ide untuk menjadikan burung hong sebagai inspirasi dalam membuat rancangan sebuah gaun pengantin berdasarkan makna dan filosofi dari burung hong, serta menggunakan Teknik Pleat pada desain rancangan.
