Abstract

Series are basically written based on fiction and nonfiction then applied into a moving picture or film, on the basis of which the messages to be conveyed can be seen and clearly understood. The Series “Squid Game” is an example of a film based on a fiction story. The Squid Game tells the story of hundreds of people who are trapped in a game that can endanger themselves, they race to get out of the game safely. During the process it was described how techniques performed the survival in the Squid Game series. Therefore, researchers want to know how the survival is represented in the Squid Game series. The theory that researchers use in this research is Ferdinand De Saussure's semiotic theory. Semiotics is the study of signs. The analytical method in this study uses signifiers and signified semiotics. In this study, the researcher used a constructivist paradigm, a qualitative descriptive research type, a research method with semiotic analysis, a visual unit of analysis, and data analysis using signs and markers from Ferdinand De Saussure. Based on the results of research that has been studied by researchers from the "Squid Game" series, and in accordance with theories regarding survival, a player in the game must take several steps to maintain survival and encourage individual behavior to achieve the desired goals. Series pada dasarnya ditulis berdasarkan fiksi dan nonfiksi kemudian diaplikasikan ke dalam sebuah gambar bergerak atau film, dengan dasar ini pesan-pesan yang ingin disampaikan dapat dilihat dan dipahami secara jelas. Series “SQUID GAME” yang berdurasi 87 menit ini merupakan salah satu contoh series yang berdasarkan dari cerita fiksi, Squid Game menceritakan tentang ratusan orang yang terjebak dalam suatu permainan yang dapat membahayakan diri mereka sendiri,mereka berlomba untuk bisa keluar dari permainan dengan selamat. Selama proses itu berlangsung digambarkan bagaimana teknik-teknik melakukan survival yang terdapat dalam series Squid Game tersebut. Maka dari itu, peneliti ingin mengetahui bagaimana survival yang di representasikan dalam series Squid Game. Teori yang peneliti gunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori semiotika milik Ferdinand De Saussure. Semiotika adalah ilmu yang mempelajari tentang tanda-tanda. Metode analisis dalam penelitian ini menggunakan semiotika signifier (penanda) dan signified (pertanda). Dalam penelitian ini Peneliti menggunakan paradigma konstruktivis, tipe penelitian pendekatan kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif, metode penelitian dengan analisis semiotika, unit analisis berupa visual dan analisis data menggunakan petanda dan penanda dari Ferdinand De Saussure. Berdasarkan dari hasil penelitian yang telah dikaji Peneliti dari series “Squid Game” ini, sesuai dengan teori-teori mengenai survival bahwa seorang pemain di dalam permainan harus melakukan beberapa langkah untuk mempertahan kelangsungan hidup dan mendorong perilaku individu untuk mencapai tujuan yang diinginkan. Kata kunci : Film, Series, Squid Game, Semiotika, Representasi, Survival.
