Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between parental social support and student motivation at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta. Determination of the sample in this study using statistical power analysis method in order to obtain a total of 111 respondents. The sampling technique in this study used proportionate stratified random sampling. A measuring tool for parental social support was developed by Cutrona & Russell (24 item statements). The measuring tool for learning motivation was developed by Utvaer & Haugan (28 statement items). The data analysis technique uses correlation which shows a significant positive relationship between parental social support and learning motivation with a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05) and a correlation coefficient value of r = 0.490. The results of this study indicate that the higher the social support of parents, the higher the student's learning motivation and vice versa. Keywords: parental social support, learning motivation Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara dukungan sosial orang tua dengan motivasi belajar siswa SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta. Penentuan sampel dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis kekuatan statistik sehingga diperoleh jumlah sebesar 111 responden. Teknik pengambilan sampel dalam penelitian ini menggunakan proportionate stratified random sampling. Alat ukur dukungan sosial orang tua dikembangkan oleh Cutrona & Russell (24 item pernyataan). Alat ukur motivasi belajar dikembangkan oleh Utvaer & Haugan (28 item pernyataan). Teknik analisa data menggunakan korelasi yang menunjukkan hubungan positif yang signifikan antara dukungan sosial orang tua dengan motivasi belajar dengan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,000 (p < 0,05) dan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar r = 0,490. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan semakin tinggi dukungan sosial orang tua, maka semakin tinggi motivasi belajar siswa begitu juga sebaliknya. Kata Kunci: dukungan sosial orang tua, motivasi belajar
