Abstract

Film is a very effective media to spread messages that the writer want to give to the audiences. In the making of “Confined” short drama film, writer as a director implements the mise en scene theory as the main theory. Mise en scene is a type of a director’s creativity to visualize film’s script into an audiovisual art which is done by arranging the framing position that wanted to be made in every single shot in the film. In the process of arranging the framing position, director is not only focused on the talents, but also other elements which will be seen in the final shot, such as the settings (place and time), properties, lighting, makeup, even wardrobe. This framing position arrangement is some kind of visual interpretation from the film’s script which has been well understood, and also as a concrete interpretation of the story that wanted to be told to the audiences. Based on the result of “Confined” short film production, writer as a director is in charge of leading and arranging crews, talents, and also in charge of everything that happened in every scene of film production. It’s like a director is the creative mind in translating what is written on the paper into the language of audiovisual. Writer as a director has a very important role in every film production process, starts from preproduction, production, until postproduction. Keywords: Short film, Mise en scene, Director. Film merupakan sebuah media yang cukup efektif untuk menyampaikan pesanpesan yang ingin disampaikan dari penulis kepada para audiens. Dalam pembuatan film drama pendek “Confined”, penulis sebagai sutradara mengimplementasikan teori mise en scene sebagai teori utama. Mise en scene adalah bentuk kreativitas seorang sutradara terhadap visualisasi naskah ke dalam karya audio visual yakni dengan menentukan penempatan gambar yang akan dibuat dalam tiap shot film. Dalam proses penempatan gambar tidak hanya berpusat kepada talent saja, tetapi elemen-elemen lainnya yang akan tampak pada gambar yang dihasilkan, baik itu dari setting (latar tempat dan waktu), property, lighting, make-up, maupun wardrobe. Penempatan gambar ini merupakan bentuk ungkapan visual dari naskah yang telah dipahami dan dimengerti, serta sebagai bentuk perwujudan konkret dari cerita yang hendak dikisahkan kepada audiens. Berdasarkan hasil produksi film pendek “Confined”, penulis sebagai sutradara bertugas untuk memimpin dan mengarahkan crew, talent, serta bertanggung jawab atas segala sesuatu yang terjadi di tiap-tiap adegan dalam produksi film. Ibaratnya, sutradara menjadi kepala kreatif dalam menerjemahkan apa yang ada di dalam kertas menjadi audio visual. Penulis sebagai sutradara sangat berperan penting dalam seluruh proses produksi film, mulai dari pra produksi, produksi, sampai pasca produksi. Kata Kunci: Film pendek, Mise en scene, Sutradara.
