Abstract
Kata Kunci: Ketergantungan Internet, Media Sosial, Pembelajaran Daring In recent years, social media users find it difficult to step away from their devices so many of them seek professional treatment. The tendency of dependence on the internet and social media is generally very difficult to let go, especially for students, so this dependence will have an impact on student achievement. This study aims to determine the relationship between dependence on social media and the internet in online learning for Public Relations students at Mercu Buana University. Media Dependency Theory is a theory of mass communication which states that the more a person depends on a medium to fulfill his needs, the more important the media is to that person. The sample of this study were students of the Faculty of Communication, Mercu Buana University, especially in the field of Public Relations. Samples were taken by simple random sampling method. Collecting data using online questionnaires which were distributed to students as many as 76 questionnaires. The method used to analyze the data is a quantitative descriptive analysis technique shown in the distributor's score and a predetermined rating scale. From the results of statistical tests obtained Pearson correlation coefficient r = 0.228 with P-value = 0.047 < α (0.05). The results of hypothesis testing obtained the value of R2 (R Square) 5.2%. While the remaining 94.8% is explained by other factors outside of this study. Researchers hope that this research can certainly contribute to preventing or realizing the impact of utilizing technological developments by starting from self-discipline in the use of social media and the internet and controlling themselves in their use and being able to contribute actively both academically, practically and socially.
