Abstract
The South Korean film industry has penetrated all over the world, including Indonesia. Silenced is a film originating from South Korea by adapting a novel called The Crucible, which is a true story set at Gwangju Inhwa School, South Korea. By raising the theme of sexual violence against deaf children in a school, Silenced is one of the films that can change the legal order in South Korea. This study aims to find meaning through signs by analyzing the mise-en-scene elements of sexual violence against deaf children in the film Silenced. Streaming platform is one of the mass communication media. Films are no longer only shown in cinemas and television. Film is also a medium in representing social life. The elements that make up the narrative in a film are mise-en-scene, namely setting, lighting, costumes & make-up, as well as the movement of players which are the main elements in supporting the narrative and building the atmosphere and mood of a film. This study uses a descriptive type of research with a qualitative approach. The method used is two-stage semiotics by Roland Barthes’s. By analyzing signs through the main elements of mise-en-scene, which are then denoted and connoted to form a meaning. From the results of this study, after analyzing the signs through the element of mise-en-scene, it was found that there were signs of sexual violence. There were also signs of physical violence and psychological violence. Myths are also the result of research findings, namely how people underestimate the eyes of deaf children and other disabilities. Keywords: Mise-En-Scene, Sexual Violence, Semiotic, Silenced. Industri perfilman Korea Selatan sudah merambah ke seluruh dunia, termasuk Indonesia. Film Silenced merupakan film yang berasal dari Korea Selatan dengan mengadaptasi dari sebuah novel berjudul The Crucible, yang merupakan kisah nyata yang di Gwangju Inhwa School, Korea Selatan. Dengan mengangkat tema kekerasan seksual terhadap anak tuna rungu di sebuah sekolah, menjadikan film Silenced sebagai salah satu film yang dapat mengubah tatanan hukum di Korea Selatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari makna melalui tanda-tanda dengan menganalisis unsur mise-en-scene kekerasan seksual terhadap anak tuna rungu dalam film Silenced. Penggunaan platform streaming menjadi salah satu media komunikasi massa. Penayangan film tidak lagi hanya ditayangkan di bioskop maupun televisi. Film juga merupakan media dalam merepresentasikan kehidupan sosial. Unsur dalam membentuk narasi di sebuah adalah mise-en-scene yaitu setting, pencahayaan, kostum & make up, serta pergerakan pemain yang merupakan unsur utama dalam mendukung naratif serta membangun suasana dan mood sebuah film. Penelitian ini menggunakan tipe penelitian deskripsi dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan adalah semiotika dua tahap oleh tokoh Roland Barthes. Dengan menganalisis tanda melalui unsur utama mise-en-scene, yang selanjutnya didenotasikan dan dikonotasikan untuk membentuk sebuah makna. Dari hasil penelitian ini, setelah menganalisis tanda melalui unsur miseen- scene ditemukan adanya tanda-tanda kekerasan seksual. Ditemukan juga adanya tanda dari kekerasan fisik dan kekerasan psikis. Mitos pun tidak luput dari menjadi hasil temuan penelitian yaitu bagaimana masyarakat memandang sebelah mata anak-anak tuna rungu dan disabilitas lainnya.
