Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the acquisition of theory of mind on the development of emotions and behavior in children aged 4-6 years. The study was conducted at several kindergartens in Bekasi on 75 respondents aged 45 - 75 months by using purposive sampling technique and correlational study design with a quantitative approach. The measuring instrument used in this study is the theory of mind measurement scale developed by Welman & Liu and has been adapted by Risnawati (2013) and the preschool behavioral and emotional rating scale (PreBERS) from Epstein & Synhorst (2009). Theory of mind and emotional and behavioral development measuring instrument has a reliability of 0.903 for the PreBERS scale and 0.88 for the theory of mind scale. The results obtained from this study indicate the value of r = 0.060 p = 0.608 (> 0.05) which means there is no relationship between the acquisition of theory of mind on the development of behavior and emotions in children aged 4-6 years, but the correlation is weak. But significantly, theory of mind is correlated with one aspect of PreBERS which is emotional regulation. Keywords: Theory of Mind, Emotional and Behavioral Development, Early Childhood Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat hubungan antara perolehan theory of mind dengan perkembangan emosi dan perilaku pada anak usia 4-6 tahun. Studi dilakukan pada beberapa sekolah taman kanak-kanak di Bekasi pada 75 responden berusia 45 – 75 bulan dengan mengunakan teknik pengambilan sampel purposive sampling dan desain penelitian correlational study dengan pendekatan kuantitatif (quantitative research). Alat ukur yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah skala pengukuran theory of mind yang dikembangkan oleh Welman & Liu dan telah diadaptasi oleh Risnawati (2013) dan preschool behavioral and emotional rating scale (PreBERS) dari Epstein & Synhorst (2009). Alat ukur theory of mind dan perkembangan emosi dan perilaku memiliki reliabilitas sebesar 0,903 untuk skala PreBERS dan 0,88 untuk skala theory of mind. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini menunjukan nilai r = 0,060 p = 0,608 (>0,05) yang berarti tidak terdapat hubungan antara perolehan theory of mind terhadap perkembangan perilaku dan emosi pada anak usia 4-6 tahun, namun korelasinya lemah. Namun secara signifikan, theory of mind berkorelasi dengan salah satu aspek PreBERS yakni regulasi emosi. Kata kunci: Theory of Mind, Perkembangan Emosi dan Perilaku, Anak Usia Dini
