Abstract

Flap peening is a process in which tungsten carbide balls are at the tip of a rotating flapper pressing all the surfaces of the damaged material structure after a process such as grinding, sanding, machining, and so on. This procedure will increase fatigue resistance of the material. The relative process of flap peening used on the surface of a small metal area, the pressure that occurs on the surface will strengthen the material, increasing resistance to fracture, tired and cracked loads by corrosion. The most optimal flap peening rotation setting and can be applied to aluminum alloys 7055-T7751 material with a thickness of 0.10 inch is at a speed of 2000 rpm. If the speed is less than 2000 rpm, the intensity of the material is not obtained optimally but if it exceeds 2000 rpm it will damage the surface of the material. The process of flap peening itself gives hardness to the surface of the material according to the variable rotation of the flapper the higher the rotation, the harder it will be. The flap peening process is very useful in improving the structure of aircraft wings because the process is very fast, clean and efficient. Keywords: Flap peening, variable rotation, material hardness Flap peening adalah sebuah proses pengerjaan yang mana bola tungsten carbide berada diujung flapper yang berputar menekan semua permukaan dari struktur material yang mengalami kerusakan setelah dilakukan proses seperti gerinda, pengamplasan, permesinan, dan lain sebagainya. Prosedur ini akan meningkatkan ketahanan lelah (fatigue) dari material. Proses flap peening ini relatif digunakan pada permukaan area metal yang kecil tekanan yang terjadi dipermukaan akan memperkuat material, meningkatkan ketahanan terhadap fraktur beban lelah dan retak oleh korosi. Setting putaran flap peening yang paling optimal dan dapat diaplikasikan pada material aluminium alloys 7055-T7751 dengan ketebalan 0.10 inch ialah dengan kecepatan 2000 rpm. Jika kecepatan kurang dari 2000 rpm maka intensitas dari material tidak didapat dengan optimal namun apabila melebihi dari 2000 rpm maka akan merusak permukaan material tersebut. Proses flap peening sendiri memberikan kekerasan pada permukaan material sesuai dengan variable putaran flapper semakin tinggi putaran maka akan semakin keras. Proses flap peening ini sangat berguna dalam perbaikan struktur sayap pesawat karena dalam prosesnya sangat cepat, bersih dan efisien. Kata Kunci: Flap peening, variable putaran, kekerasan material
