Abstract
Opinions are things that can’t be ignored because opinions determine the image of an institution. Stakeholder opinion about the image can be an indication of success or failure of an institution. The surrounding community as one of the external stakeholders that is closely related to the activities of an institution certainly has an important role. In this case, the community around Mercu Buana University in Jakarta giving their opinion about the image as an “A” accredited University. The objective is to find out how the image developed in the surrounding community. This study uses the post-positivism paradigm with the type of descriptive - qualitative research, researchers conducted in-depth interviews with informants, namely the Head of the surrounding environment (key informants) and also the business owners and internal parties of Mercu Buana University (informants). The results of the study based on the interview data in this study discussed about the understanding of the surrounding community about higher education and accreditation, the experience that was established between the two parties, then the “self-interest” and the “social interest” that the community has that related to the opinion on the image. The conclusion in this study is that the image that is owned by the surrounding community about Mercu Buana University as an “A” accredited University is positive when it comes to the facilities, students, quality of teaching, and achievement. However, it should be noted about the optimization and extension of programs in surrounding community of Mercu Buana University so that the image can be improved. Opini merupakan hal yang tidak dapat diabaikan karena opini dapat menentukan citra sebuah lembaga. Opini stakeholder tentang citra dapat menjadi salah satu indikasi keberhasilan atau sebaliknya kegagalan sebuah lembaga. Masyarakat sekitar sebagai salah satu stakeholder eksternal yang erat hubungannya dengan aktivitas sebuah lembaga tentunya memiliki peran penting. Dalam hal ini masyarakat sekitar Universitas Mercu Buana Jakarta dalam memberikan opini mereka tentang citra sebagai Universitas Ter-akreditasi A. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana citra yang berkembang di masyarakat sekitar. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma post-positivisme dengan tipe penelitian deskriptif – kualitatif, peneliti melakukan wawancara mendalam kepada narasumber yaitu Kepala lingkungan sekitar (key informan) dan juga pemilik usah serta pihak internal Universitas Mercu Buana (informan). Hasil penelitian berdasarkan data wawancara pada penelitian ini membahasa mengenai pemahaman masyarakat sekitar mengenai perguruan tinggi dan akreditasi, pengalaman yang terjalin antara kedua belah pihak kemudian self interset dan social interest yang masyarakat miliki terkait dengan opini terhadap citra tersebut. Kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini adalah citra yang dimiliki masyarakat sekitar mengenai Universitas mercu buana sebagai Universitas ter-akreditasi A adalah positif jika dilihat dari fasilitas, mahasiswa, mutu pengajaran, dan prestasinya. Namun perlu diperhatikan mengenai optimalisasi dan pemeratan program di lingkungan sekitar Universitas Mercu Buana agar citra yang dimiliki dapat ditingkatkan.
