Abstract
The short film “Love Zone” tells a love story involving differences in social and cultural backgrounds, family dynamics, and parental approval in the relationship between Roji, a young man from a modest family, and Naya, a woman from a religious and respected family. This work focuses on the role of the film editor during the post-production process in constructing the storyline, controlling the rhythm, maintaining visual continuity, and strengthening emotional delivery to the audience. The editing process applies a continuity editing approach through the selection and arrangement of shots, from the rough cut to the picture lock stage, using techniques such as cut on action, jump cut, insert shot, L-cut, and J-cut according to the needs of each scene. The application of continuity editing aims to maintain continuity between shots so that the storyline can be conveyed clearly and naturally to the audience. During the editing process, several challenges were encountered, including blurry shots and uneven lighting in some of the production footage. These challenges were addressed by selecting usable shots, adjusting the editing structure, and coordinating with the team to make color adjustments during the post-production stage. The results demonstrate that the film editor plays an important role in shaping the storyline, rhythm, continuity, and emotional delivery through the processing of visual materials. The editing process of “Love Zone” also provided the author with experience in applying continuity editing and making creative decisions based on the needs of the story. Film pendek “Love Zone” mengangkat kisah percintaan yang menghadapi perbedaan latar belakang sosial dan budaya, dinamika keluarga, serta persoalan restu dalam hubungan antara Roji, seorang pemuda dari keluarga sederhana, dan Naya, perempuan dari keluarga religius dan terpandang. Karya ini memfokuskan pada peran penyunting gambar dalam proses pasca produksi untuk membangun alur cerita, mengatur ritme, menjaga kesinambungan visual, serta memperkuat penyampaian emosi kepada penonton. Proses penyuntingan menerapkan pendekatan continuity editing melalui pemilihan dan penyusunan shot, mulai dari rough cut hingga picture lock, dengan menggunakan teknik cut on action, jump cut, insert shot, L cut, dan J cut sesuai dengan kebutuhan setiap adegan. Penerapan continuity editing digunakan untuk menjaga kesinambungan antarshot sehingga alur cerita dapat tersampaikan secara jelas dan natural kepada penonton. Dalam proses penyuntingan, terdapat beberapa kendala berupa beberapa shot yang mengalami blur serta pencahayaan yang tidak merata pada beberapa materi hasil produksi. Kendala tersebut diatasi melalui pemilihan shot yang masih layak digunakan, penyesuaian struktur editing, serta koordinasi dengan tim dalam melakukan penyesuaian warna pada tahap pasca produksi. Hasil dari proses tersebut menunjukkan bahwa penyunting gambar memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk alur, ritme, kesinambungan, dan penyampaian emosi melalui pengolahan materi visual. Proses penyuntingan film “Love Zone” juga memberikan pengalaman bagi penulis dalam menerapkan continuity editing serta mengambil keputusan kreatif berdasarkan kebutuhan cerita.
