Abstract
Film as a mass communication medium has a strategic role not only as a means of entertainment, but also as a medium to reflect social reality and convey moral messages to society. This applied final project is in the form of a fictional short film entitled "Senandung Sunyi" which is a family psychological drama genre. This film aims to raise the issue of the impact of behavioral relationships in the family and the psychological dynamics of children through the perspective of a musically talented younger sibling with his older sibling who suffers from ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). The main focus of this design lies in the application of directing techniques to strengthen the narrative elements and visual aesthetics of the film through two main aspects. The use of Screen Direction techniques, which include setting the direction of the screen, imaginary lines (180 degree rule), angle matching, eye line matching, and continuity of action (continuity of action) to maintain visual continuity. Then the application of Mise En Scene which includes the arrangement of management elements, makeup and costumes, lighting (lighting), as well as the placement of the position and movement of actors (blocking actors) to build a consistent and natural atmosphere, emotion, and characterization. The results of the study indicate that the effective use of Screen Direction and Mise En Scene techniques is able to strengthen the narrative message, where the audience responds emotionally to the visuals and atmosphere created. The placement of actors and objects in the frame, the use of color, and the play of light and shadow successfully create tension and depict the psychological comfort experienced by the victim. The conclusion of this study confirms that the role of the director and the use of appropriate cinematic techniques are crucial in influencing the audience's interpretation and acceptance of sensitive issues. This work is expected to not only have strong cinematic aesthetic value, but also be able to convey a profound message about the meaning of presence, sacrifice, and sincerity of affection in the family, as well as serve as a reference for other filmmakers in addressing complex social themes. Keywords: Film, Director, Screen Direction, Mise En Scene Film sebagai media komunikasi massa memiliki peran strategis tidak hanya sebagai sarana hiburan, tetapi juga sebagai medium untuk merefleksikan realitas sosial dan menyampaikan pesan moral kepada masyarakat. Karya tugas akhir aplikatif ini berwujud film pendek fiksi berjudul “Senandung Sunyi” yang bergenre drama psikologi keluarga. Film ini bertujuan untuk mengangkat isu dampak perilaku hubungan dalam keluarga serta dinamika psikologis anak melalui perspektif seorang adik yang berbakat musik dengan kakak yang menyandang penyakit ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Fokus utama perancangan ini terletak pada penerapan teknis penyutradaraan untuk memperkuat unsur naratif dan estetika visual film melalui dua aspek utama. Penggunaan teknik Screen Direction, yang mencakup pengaturan arah layar, garis imajiner (180-degree rule), matching angles, matching eye-line, serta kesinambungan aksi (continuity of action) untuk menjaga kesinambungan visual. Lalu penerapan Mise En Scene yang meliputi pengelolaan elemen setting, tata rias dan kostum, pencahayaan (lighting), serta penempatan posisi dan gerakan aktor (actor blocking) guna membangun suasana, emosi, dan karakterisasi yang konsisten dan natural. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan teknik Screen Direction dan Mise En Scene secara efektif mampu memperkuat pesan naratif, di mana penonton merespons secara emosional terhadap visual dan suasana yang dibangun. Penempatan aktor dan objek dalam frame, penggunaan warna, serta permainan cahaya dan bayangan berhasil menciptakan ketegangan dan menggambarkan ketidaknyamanan psikologis yang dialami korban. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa peran sutradara dan penggunaan teknik sinematik yang tepat sangat krusial dalam mempengaruhi interpretasi dan penerimaan penonton terhadap isu-isu sensitif. Karya ini diharapkan tidak hanya memiliki nilai estetika sinematik yang kuat, tetapi juga mampu menyampaikan pesan mendalam mengenai arti kehadiran, pengorbanan, dan ketulusan kasih sayang dalam keluarga, sekaligus menjadi referensi bagi pembuat film lain dalam menangani tema sosial yang kompleks.
