Abstract
The short family drama film “Senandung Sunyi” is an audio-visual work that explores the emotional dynamics and sacrifice of a sister named Alya in caring for her brother, Ray, who suffers from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The moral message in this film is not only conveyed through dialogue but is profoundly expressed through the power of visual language. The purpose of this Applicative Final Project is to implement Joseph V. Mascelli's 5’C Cinematography Theory, comprising Camera Angle, Continuity, Cutting, Close Up, and Composition into the camera work of the film “Senandung Sunyi”. The author plays a vital role as the Director of Photography (DoP), taking full responsibility for the entire visual design and execution, from pre-production and on-set production to the final post-production stage. Through the application of these five elements, combined with dynamic camera movement techniques and dramatic lighting, the DoP strives to build an atmosphere of silence and the emotional intimacy of the main characters with high precision. The use of visual compositions such as negative space, along with the selection of camera angles, is specifically designed to convey the meaning of presence and familial affection without the need for verbal expression. The author also formulates solutions to overcome various technical obstacles on set, such as handling missed focus in low-light conditions by maximizing the focus peaking feature on an external monitor, and dealing with a lack of b-roll footage by utilizing the rhythm of editing transitions. The results of this project indicate that the implementation of the 5’C Cinematography Theory is highly effective in translating the director's vision into aesthetic visual storytelling. In conclusion, cinematography plays a crucial role as the primary medium for conveying the characters' inner turmoil, proving that the complete visual grammar is capable of articulating the sense of silence and unspoken love. Film pendek bergenre drama keluarga “Senandung Sunyi” merupakan karya audio visual yang mengangkat kisah dinamika emosional dan pengorbanan seorang adik bernama Alya dalam merawat kakaknya, Ray, yang mengidap Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Pesan moral dalam film ini tidak hanya disampaikan melalui dialog, melainkan diekspresikan secara mendalam melalui kekuatan bahasa visual. Tujuan perancangan Tugas Akhir Aplikatif ini adalah mengimplementasikan Teori 5’C Cinematography gagasan Joseph V. Mascelli, meliputi Camera Angle, Continuity, Cutting, Close Up, dan Composition ke dalam tata kamera film “Senandung Sunyi”. Penulis memegang peranan vital sebagai Director of Photography (DoP) yang bertanggung jawab penuh atas seluruh perancangan dan eksekusi visual, mulai dari tahapan pra-produksi, produksi di lapangan, hingga penyelesaian di tahap pasca-produksi. Melalui penerapan kelima elemen tersebut, yang dipadukan dengan teknik pergerakan kamera dinamis serta tata pencahayaan dramatis, DoP berupaya membangun atmosfer kesunyian dan kedekatan emosional karakter utama dengan tingkat presisi tinggi. Penggunaan komposisi visual seperti negative space serta penentuan camera angle dirancang khusus untuk menyampaikan makna kehadiran dan kasih sayang keluarga tanpa harus diucapkan secara lisan. Penulis juga merumuskan pemecahan masalah dalam menghadapi berbagai kendala teknis di lokasi syuting, seperti penanganan miss focus di kondisi minim cahaya dengan memaksimalkan fitur focus peaking pada monitor eksternal, serta menyiasati minimnya stok gambar b-roll melalui pemanfaatan ritme transisi editing. Hasil perancangan menunjukkan bahwa penerapan Teori 5’C Cinematography terbukti efektif merepresentasikan visi cerita sutradara ke dalam penceritaan visual yang estetis. Kesimpulannya, sinematografi memegang peranan krusial sebagai medium utama dalam menyampaikan gejolak batin karakter, sekaligus membuktikan bahwa tata bahasa gambar secara utuh mampu menyuarakan rasa hening dan cinta yang tak tersuarakan.
