Abstract
Film as a visual communication medium not only serves as a form of entertainment, but also functions as a channel for delivering moral messages, emotions, and social realities through a well-structured narrative. This final report aims to analyze the role of the screenwriter in the production of the short film ABATI, particularly in developing the story idea and theme, organizing the threeact narrative structure, building characters and family conflict, and writing dialogue that supports message delivery within the family drama genre. The variables examined in this report focus on the role of the screenwriter, which includes the process of idea development, story structuring, character strengthening, conflict development, and dialogue writing. This study applies a descriptive qualitative approach with a purposive sampling technique, selecting informants who were directly involved in the film production process, such as the screenwriter and the director. The sample size consists of two main informants. Data were collected through observation of the production process, interviews, and documentation of the script and its revisions. The data analysis method used descriptive qualitative analysis to interpret the screenwriter’s role based on the stages of work carried out during production. The results indicate that the screenwriter plays a fundamental role in the production of ABATI, as they are responsible for developing a coherent storyline through the three-act structure, creating characters with emotional depth, and designing relevant and realistic internal family conflicts. In addition, the script development process involved intensive discussions and repeated revisions with the director to ensure narrative continuity and alignment with the film’s intended message. The conclusion of this final report emphasizes that the screenwriter holds a strategic contribution in determining film quality, as the script serves as the primary guideline that directs the entire production process so the film can effectively convey its message about the importance of family communication. Film sebagai media komunikasi visual tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai sarana hiburan, tetapi juga sebagai medium penyampai pesan moral, emosi, dan realitas sosial melalui narasi yang terstruktur. Laporan akhir ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran penulis naskah dalam produksi film pendek ABATI, khususnya dalam merancang ide dan tema, menyusun struktur narasi tiga babak, membangun karakter serta konflik keluarga, dan menulis dialog yang mendukung penyampaian pesan dalam genre family drama. Variabel yang diteliti dalam laporan ini adalah peran penulis naskah yang meliputi proses pengembangan ide, penyusunan struktur cerita, penguatan karakterisasi, pengolahan konflik, dan penulisan dialog. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengambilan sampel berupa purposive sampling, yaitu memilih informan yang terlibat langsung dalam proses produksi film, seperti penulis naskah dan sutradara. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah dua informan utama. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi proses produksi, wawancara, serta dokumentasi naskah dan revisinya. Metode analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif kualitatif untuk menginterpretasikan peran penulis naskah berdasarkan tahapan kerja yang dilakukan selama produksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penulis naskah berperan sebagai fondasi utama dalam produksi film ABATI, karena bertanggung jawab membangun alur yang runtut melalui struktur tiga babak, menciptakan karakter yang memiliki kedalaman emosional, serta merancang konflik internal keluarga yang relevan dan realistis. Selain itu, proses script development dilakukan melalui diskusi dan revisi berulang bersama sutradara untuk memastikan kesinambungan cerita dan kesesuaian pesan film. Kesimpulan dari laporan akhir ini menegaskan bahwa penulis naskah memiliki kontribusi strategis dalam menentukan kualitas film, karena naskah menjadi pedoman yang mengarahkan keseluruhan proses produksi agar film mampu menyampaikan pesan tentang pentingnya komunikasi keluarga secara efektif.
