Abstract

According to data reported by the Ministry of Communications and Informatics (Kominfo), at least 30 million children and adolescents in Indonesia are internet users, and digital media is currently the main choice of communication channels they use (Kominfo, 2018). An effective contribution of 23.3% indicates that the intentions of using gadget contributes to the formation of adolescent emotional intelligence (Manumpil, 2015). In addition, addiction of gadgets in teenagers is very dangerous for mental and social development psychological aspects. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the relationship between gadget addiction with emotional intelligence in junior high school students in Tebet, South Jakarta. The sample in this research is 378 junior high school students in Tebet, South Jakarta, using Proportionate Statified Random Sampling technique. The data collection method using the scale of gadget addiction and the scale of emotional intelligence with data analysis method using Rank-Spearman correlation. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant negative relationship between gadget addiction with emotional intelligence in junior high school students in Tebet, South Jakarta. Keywords: Gadget Addiction, Emotional Intelligence, Teenagers, Junior High School Students Menurut data yang dilaporkan oleh Kementerian Komunikasi dan Informatika (Kominfo), setidaknya 30 juta anak dan remaja di Indonesia merupakan pengguna internet, dan media digital saat ini menjadi pilihan utama saluran komunikasi yang mereka gunakan (Kominfo, 2018). Sumbangan efektif sebesar 23,3% menunjukkan bahwa intensi penggunaan gadget ini berkontribusi terhadap pembentukkan kecerdasan emosi remaja (Manumpil, 2015). Selain itu juga Kecanduan gadget terhadap remaja sangat berbahaya bagi perkembangan mental sosial dan aspek psikologis. Maka dari itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara kecanduan gadget dengan kecerdasan emosi pada siswa SMP di Kecamatan Tebet Jakarta Selatan. Sampel pada penelitian ini adalah 378 siswa SMP di Kecamatan Tebet Jakarta Selatan dengan menggunakan teknik sampling Proportionate Statified Random Sampling. Pengumpulan data menggunakan skala kecanduan gadget dan skala kecerdasan emosi dengan metode analisis data menggunakan korelasi Rank-Spearman. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa terdapat hubungan signifikan negatif antara kecanduan gadget dengan kecerdasan emosi pada siswa SMP di Kecamatan Tebet Jakarta Selatan.
