Abstract

The building process in the tire industry involves combining various materials to produce a green tire, where the innerliner serves to retain air when the tire is in use. Manual splicing of the innerliner using a hand roll by operators often results in product defects known as innerliner open splice (ILO). This issue is caused by factors such as insufficiently sticky material, incorrect cutter angle, and suboptimal splicing pressure. This study aims to reduce production defects by designing an auto splicing system for the innerliner based on the Siemens S7-400 Programmable Logic Control (PLC). This system will automate the innerliner splicing process, with parameters for cylinder pressure and splicing motor speed controlled via a Human Machine Interface (HMI). This automation is expected to reduce defects caused by manual splicing errors and enhance production consistency according to established standards. The result of the study shown that the modification of the auto splicing system on the tire building machine using the Siemens S7-400 PLC functions effectively. Testing the HMI process parameters demonstrated 100% accuracy for both manual and automatic systems, with a 0% error rate. The speed and pressure parameters testing each achieved an accuracy of 99.54%. During the tool stability testing, the standard parameter settings were a speed of 30 Hz and a pressure of 7.0 Bar, with a process cycle time of 13 seconds. The implementation of this auto splicing system resulted in a 95.6% reduction in Innerliner Open Splice (ILO) defects. This demonstrates that the PLC based innerliner auto splicing system can significantly improve the quality of green tires, thereby reducing company losses and ensuring that the product complies with the established standards. Proses building dalam industri ban merupakan proses penggabungan berbagai material untuk menghasilkan sebuah green tire, dimana innerliner berfungsi untuk menahan angin ketika ban digunakan. Penyambungan innerliner secara manual menggunakan hand roll oleh operator sering menimbulkan cacat produk yang dikenal sebagai innerliner open splice (ILO). Masalah ini disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor seperti material yang kurang lengket, sudut kemiringan cutter yang tidak sesuai standard, dan tekanan penyambungan yang kurang optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengurangi cacat produksi dengan merancang sistem auto splicing innerliner berbasis Programmable Logic Control (PLC) Siemens S7-400. Sistem ini akan membuat proses penyambungan innerliner secara otomatis, dengan pengaturan parameter tekanan silinder multidisc dan kecepatan motor splicing melalui Human Machine Interface (HMI). Otomatisasi ini diharapkan dapat mengurangi cacat produk yang disebabkan karena adanya kesalahan dalam proses penyambungan manual dan meningkatkan konsistensi produksi sesuai dengan standard yang telah ditetapkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa modifikasi sistem auto splicing pada mesin building tire berbasis PLC Siemens S7-400 dapat berjalan dengan baik. Setelah dilakukan pengujian parameter proses HMI menunjukkan akurasi sebesar 100% untuk sistem manual maupun otomatis, serta dengan tingkat error sebesar 0%. Dalam pengujian parameter kecepatan dan tekanan, masing-masing mendapatkan nilai akurasi sebesar 99,54%. Pada pengujian stabilitas alat, didapatkan nilai setting standar parameter speed sebesar 30 Hz dan pressure sebesar 7.0 Bar, serta waktu cycle time proses sebesar 13 detik. Setelah dilakukan penerapan sistem auto splicing ini didapatkan data bahwa alat berhasil menurunkan cacat produk Innerliner Open Splice (ILO) sebesar 95,6%. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa sistem auto splicing innerliner berbasis PLC dapat secara signifikan meningkatkan kualitas green tire, sehingga dapat mengurangi kerugian perusahaan dan memastikan produk diproduksi sesuai dengan standard yang ditetapkan.
