Abstract

This research is motivated by the utilization of organic materials such as banana stem fibers and coconut shells for environmentally friendly composite materials. The aim of this study is to determine the optimum composition that provides the highest impact resistance for each material component and to characterize the microstructure of the composite.The research was conducted using experimental methods at the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory of Mercu Buana University. Impact testing was performed using the Charpy method, while microstructure characterization was conducted using optical microscopy (OM). The experiments involved dividing specimens into 9 composition variations, which were manually molded using specimen molds and dried under sunlight for 1-2 hours. Subsequently, impact testing was conducted to assess the toughness of the specimens and to analyze their microstructure.Based on the conducted research, the specimen with the highest toughness was combination C, which exhibited a toughness value of 23.43 kJ/m2 Keywords: Impact test, microstructure, banana stem fiber, coconut shell, composite. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi pemanfaatan bahan organik serat tandan pisang, dan batok kelapa untuk kebutuhan material komposit yang ramah lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui prosentase yang paling besar dalam ketahanan uji impak dari setiap bahannya dan karakteristik mikrostruktur komposit. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode uji eksperimen di Laboratorium Teknik Mesin Universitas Mercu Buana, pengujian yang dilakukan adalah uji impak dengan menggunakan metode charpy, sementara karakterisasi mikrostruktur dilakukan menggunakan optical microscopy (OM). Percobaan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, dilakukan dengan cara membagi menjadi 9 variasi komposisi pada spesimen uji impak dengan pencetakan manual menggunakan cetakan spesimen dan dikeringkan dibawah sinar matahari selama 1-2 jam, setelahnya dilakukan pengujian impak untuk mengetahui ketangguhan dari spesimen dan menganalisis struktur mikro dari spesimen. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan, spesimen yang memiliki ketangguhan tertinggi adalah kombinasi C yang memiliki nilai ketangguhan 23,43 kJ/m2 Kata kunci : Uji impak, mikrostruktur, serat tandan pisang, batok kelapa, komposit.
