Abstract
Steel has its main enemy, namely corrosion, corrosion itself is the process of decreasing the quality of materials due to chemical reactions with the environment. In the automotive industry, the main material is steel, corrosion is one of the most challenging thing in the manufacturing process. Previously, automotive manufacturers only used cold rolled steel, but as time goes by and to prevent corrosion, many automotive companies are switching to galvanized steel. Galvanized steel is a coating of steel sheets by dipping the base metal in a hot zinc pot and then annealing process deletions. In this test, there 3 sample with steel grade 27C with cold rolled process and galvannealed steel process without additional additional coating and with additional coating with chromate. These three types of materials will be tested using a 5% NaCl solution and open air. The corrosion rate of the material is calculated from the difference in material weight using the mass loss method. Apart from measuring the corrosion rate, the surface of the test material will be checked using SEM-EDX. From the result have obtained the results of galvannealed steel material with chromate has the lowest corrosion rate of 3.30 mg⁄m2 .hour at 5% NaCl. while the highest corrosion rate obtained was cold rolled material of 47.12 mg⁄m2 . hour at 5% NaCl. Keywords: Corrosion, cold rolled steel, galvanization, steel grade 27C, corrosion rate, weight loss method, SEM-EDX Baja memiliki musuh utama yaitu korosi, korosi sendiri adalah proses terjadinya penurunan mutu material akibat reaksi kimia dengan lingkungannya. Pada industri otomotif yang memiliki bahan utama adalah baja, korosi merupakan hal yang harus dihindari dalam sebuah proses manufakturnya. Sebelumnya, produsen otomotif hanya menggunakan baja cold rolled saja, namun seiring berkembangnya zaman dan untuk mencegah adanya korosi, banyak perusahaan otomotif yang beralih ke baja galvanis. Baja galvanis merupakan baja cold rolled yang memiliki proses pelapisan lembaran baja dengan mencelupkan logam induk dalam kolam zinc. Pada pengujian ini, ada 3 material steel grade 27C dengan proses cold rolled dan baja galvannealed tanpa pelapisan tambahan dan dengan pelapisan tambahan berupa chromate. Ketiga jenis material tersebut akan dilakukan pengujian menggunakan larutan NaCl 5% dan udara terbuka. Laju korosi material tersebut dihitung dari perbedaan berat material menggunakan metode kehilangan massa. Selain pengukuran laju korosi, permukaan material uji akan dilakukan pengecekan menggunakan SEM-EDX. Dari hasil pengujian didapatkan hasil material galvannealed steel dengan chromate memiliki laju korosi paling kecil yaitu sebesar 3,30 mg⁄m2 .jam pada NaCl 5%, sedangkan laju korosi paling tinggi yang didapatkan adalah material cold rolled yaitu sebesar 47,12 mg⁄m2 .jam pada NaCl 5%.
