Abstract

Student fitness in learning is an important thing to note, especially in online learning which currently still has many obstacles and complaints in its implementation. Students need to maintain their health, from the aspect of mental, physical health, sleep quality, and alertness in carrying out learning so that they can participate in learning safely and get good learning outcomes. The purpose of this study was to analyze the condition of student fitness for study based on aspects of mental workload using the NASA-TLX method, physical workload using the %Cardiovascular Load (CVL) and energy consumption method, sleep quality using the Pittsburgh Sleepiness Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire, level of sleepiness with the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS), and sustained attention with the Psychomotor Vigilance Task (PVT). Then, this study also aims to provide suggestions for improvements to improve student fitness for study. With NASA TLX, it was found that 58 students had mental workloads in the rather high – very high range. With %CVL, it was found that 58 students had a light physical workload, and there was a difference between resting pulse rate and work pulse rate. With the PSQI, it was found that 44 students had poor sleep quality. With KSS, it was found that 33 students experienced an increase in sleepiness from a scale of 3 to a scale of 5, and there was a difference between the level of sleepiness before and after activities. With PVT, the parameters of the average reaction time, number of lapses, and total errors before and after activities show the difference between before and after activities. In the overall student fitness for study which was classified based on total PVT errors, 9 students were low-performing or not alert before doing activities, 5 and there were 15 students who were low-performing during the measurement after doing the activity. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the causes of the problems that affect the decline in student fitness, namely aspects of high mental workload, aspects of poor sleep quality, aspects of increasing levels of sleepiness, and aspects of decreasing sustained attention. Furthermore, suggestions for improvements using the 5W+1H method are given as recommendations for related parties so that students can study safely and can produce good learning outcomes.
