Abstract
A wind tunnel is equipment used to perform aerodynamic testing of a model, such as an aircraft or a car. For the needs of educational-scale aerodynamic testing, a low-speed wind tunnel design was carried out at Mercu Buana University. In the design of this low-speed wind tunnel, it uses an open type of wind wind tunnel. The design of this wind tunnel consists of a test section, contraction cone, diffuser, settling chamber, and honeycombs. The quality of the wind tunnel test is affected by the flow in the test section. To maintain a constant and laminar flow, in this design an analysis of the calculation of the power of the electric motor for the axial fan is required. The test section in this study has dimensions of 0.42m x 0.42m and length of 0.84m with a maximum air flow speed of 50 m/s. This analysis aims to obtain the coefficient of loss (K) in all parts of the wind tunnel and is used to calculate the output power of the electric motor to drive the axial fan. The method used in this study is literature, namely all the formulas used are from books and journals. The calculation of the coefficient of loss and power of the electric motor is obtained from the size of the existing wind tunnel design.
