Abstract

The number of motor vehicle usage continues to grow to help and expedite all human activities. On the other hand motor vehicles are the cause of one of the biggest air pollutants. With regulations issued by the government regarding exhaust gas emission standards, automotive companies must meet the quality standards for exhaust emissions. So that Catalytic Converter technology is used as one of the right solutions to control and reduce exhaust gas from vehicle engines. In the process of combustion of fuel and air other than enthalpy, combustion waste products, namely emissions of CO, CO2, O2, NO, HC and other elements that can pollute the environment and can endanger human health. With the Catalytic Converter installed on the exhaust manifold or gasoline motorcycle exhaust system, it can reduce exhaust emissions in the form of smoke. This research test compares the exhaust gas data generated by gasoline motors in the exhaust manifold system both using and without Catalytic Converter. Data collection was carried out at room temperature when testing. Tests carried out using a ratio between 1000 rpm to 4000 rpm. The results of using Catalytic Converter are very effective in reducing the smoke density or opacity of the overall gasoline motor by an average of 32.8%. Emission test results have low emissions or are in accordance with Euro3 regulations and DKI Jakarta Governor's Regulation No. 31 of 2008 concerning motor vehicle exhaust emission thresholds. Keywords : Emission analysis, exhaust gas, emission index, Catalytic Converter, Gas Analyzer Tecno Test MOD. 488 Jumlah penggunaan kendaraan bermotor yang terus bertambah untuk membantu dan memperlancar segala aktifitas manusia. Disisi lain kendaraan bermotor merupakan penyebab salah satu pencemar polusi udara terbesar. Dengan regulasi yang dikeluarkan pemerintah tentang standar emisi gas buang, maka perusahaan otomotif harus memenuhi ketentuan baku mutu emisi gas buang. Sehingga teknologi Catalytic Converter dijadikan salah satu solusi tepat untuk mengontrol dan mengurangi gas buang dari mesin kendaraan. Dalam proses pembakaran bahan bakar dan udara selain entalpi, produk sisa pembakaran yaitu emisi atau polutan CO, CO2, O2, NO, HC dan unsur – unsur lain yang dapat mencemari lingkungan dan dapat membahayakan kesehatan manusia. Dengan adanya Catalytic Converter yang dipasang pada sistem exhaust manifold atau knalpot motor bensin dapat mengurangi emisi gas buang berupa asap. Pengujian penelitian ini membandingkan data gas buang yang dihasilkan motor bensin pada sistem exhaust manifold baik yang menggunakan maupun tanpa Catalytic Converter. Pengambilan data dilakukan dikondisikan pada temperatur ruang saat pengujian. Pengujian dilakukan dengan menggunakan perbandingan diantara 1000 rpm hingga 4000 rpm. Hasil penggunaan Catalytic Converter sangat efektif dalam mengurangi kepekatan asap atau opacity dari motor bensin secara keseluruhan rata – rata sebesar 32,8%. Hasil pengujian emisi mempunyai emisi yang rendah atau sesuai dengan regulasi Euro3 dan PERGUB DKI Jakarta Nomor 31 tahun 2008 tentang ambang batas emisi gas buang kendaraan bermotor.
