Abstract
Research on the factors affecting the dividend policy has been much done mainly on manufacturing company. There is inconsistency of previous research results. The research tries to analyse the factors affecting the dividend policy on sectors other than manufacturing. This research was performed to examine the effect of cash ratio (CR), debt to equity ratio (DER), net profit margin (NPM), Return on Investment (ROI), and tax rate (tax) toward dividend payout ratio (DPR) in finance companies that is listed in Indonesian Stock Exchange over period 2006-2010. The population of this research is 86 finance companies. The sampling technique that used was purposive sampling. It is gained sample amount of 14 companies. The multiple regression was used to test the hypotheses with level of significance 5%. The research concludes that CR, DER, NPM, ROI and Tax rate have a significant effect simultaneously on the dividend payout ratio. NPM and ROI have significantly positive effect of partial on dividend payout ratio while tax rate have significantly negative dominant effect. It might happen because majority stockholder of a parent company is a legal entity and ROE of a subsidiary company larger than ROE of parent company, for that further research needs to be done. Keywords : Cash ratio, debt to equity ratio (DER), net profit margin (NPM), return on investment (ROI), tax rate (Tax), dividend payout ratio (DPR) Penelitian terhadap faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kebijakan dividen telah banyak dilakukan terutama pada perusahaan manufaktur. Kata kunci : Cash ratio, debt to equity ratio (DER), net profit margin (NPM), return on investment (ROI), tax rate (Tax), dividend payout ratio (DPR)
