Abstract
Scientifically Unaccepted Beliefs in Traditional Healers with Energy Techniques Abdullah Syena Reyhan Kama Karisma Riskinanti, M.Psi., Psikolog Mercu Buana University Abstract Practices that use scientifically unacceptable methods, such as paranormal and traditional health services, are part of cultures in various parts of the world, ethnicity, race, and throughout the history of human civilization to the present. Not only is it believed, even these practices have caused tragedy and polemic several times in the community. In the Republic of Indonesia, recognizes one of the professions that provides traditional health services, which are called ‘Traditional Healers with Energy Techniques.’ It is important to conduct a study that aims to illustrate how certain beliefs are formed within a traditional healer with energy techniques, so that they deliberately offering services to intervene in other people's problems with methods that cannot be scientifically accepted. This research uses a qualitative, phenomenological approach, which bases on the theory of “Scientifically Unaccepted Beliefs” developed by Harvey Irwin. The data collection process is carried out by interviewing individuals who are traditional health practitioners with energy techniques. Authentication related to participant practices is carried out by documenting official letters from the government of the Republic of Indonesia which recognize these practices. Based on data analysis conducted on the results of interviews of two participants, it is known that there are unique aspects in their lives that support the formation of beliefs about things that cannot be scientifically accepted. In the results of the study also found that each participant has a certain motivation to conduct every service practice using methods that cannot be scientifically accepted. Keywords: paranormal, scientifically unaccepted beliefs, traditional healers Scientifically Unaccepted Beliefs pada Penyehat Tradisional dengan Teknik Energi Abdullah Syena Reyhan Kama Karisma Riskinanti, M.Psi., Psikolog Universitas Mercu Buana Abstrak Praktik-praktik yang menggunakan metode yang tidak dapat diterima secara ilmiah, seperti paranormal dan layanan kesehatan tradisional, merupakan bagian dari kebudayaan-kebudayaan di berbagai belahan dunia, suku, ras, dan selama sejarah peradaban manusia hingga saat ini. Tidak hanya sekedar dipercayai, bahkan praktik-praktik ini beberapa kali justru menimbulkan tragedi dan polemik di tengah masyarakat. Di Republik Indonesia mengakui adanya salah satu profesi yang menyediakan layanan kesahatan tradisional, yang disebut sebagai ‘Penyehat Tradisional dengan Teknik Energi.’ Penting dilakukannya suatu penelitian yang bertujuan untuk menggambarkan bagaimana suatu keyakinan tertetntu terbentuk di dalam diri seorang penyehat tradisional dengan teknik energi, sehingga mereka dengan sengaja menawarkan jasa untuk mengintervensi permasalahan orang lain dengan metode yang tidak dapat diterima secara ilmiah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, fenomenologis, yang mendasarkan pada teori “Scientifically Unaccepted Beliefs” yang dikembangkan oleh Harvey Irwin. Proses pengambilan data dilakukan dengan metode wawancara terhadap individuindividu yang merupakan praktisi penyehat tradisional dengan teknik energi. Autentikasi terkait praktik partisipan dilakukan dengan mendokumentasikan surat-surat resmi dari pemerintah Republik Indonesia yang mengakui praktik tersebut. Berdasarkan analisis data yang dilakukan terhadap hasil wawancara dua partisipan, diketahui terdapat suatu aspek-aspek yang khas dalam kehidupan mereka yang mendukung terbentuknya keyakinan terhadap hal-hal yang tidak dapat diterima secara ilmiah. Pada hasil penelitian juga mendapatkan temuan bahwa masing-masing partisipan memiliki motivasi tertentu untuk melakukan setiap praktik layanan jasa dengan menggunakan metode yang tidak dapat diterima secara ilmiah.
