Abstract

This paper is presented with a theme of improvement in reducing reject of steel pipe to step up production performance. This is affected with many factors such as machineries, material, work culture, method, etc. To reduce rejection rate in steel pipe used improvement tools with six sigma method. The six sigma method is one of the most dynamic approaches in management process and product quality improvement. Application of six sigma method has six phases i.e. Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC). The six sigma method application is carried out in steel industry i.e. PT. Bakrie Pipe Industries, machine KT 24 plant to reduce steel pipe rejection rate, which is happened in the scheme of to increase yield and efficiency of raw material. The six sigma application with DMAIC method supported with the availability of complete data may achieve the expected improvement. Availability of production data, reject of steel pipe data, length of HRC data and length of open weld data can be base to analyze root cause dominant in phase analyze with used regression method. In this paper is presented calculation of weight ideal of HRC and optimize length of reject steel pipe to reduce steel pipe rejection rate. The result of six sigma method application in reducing rejection rate of this steel pipe in able to increase production yield, increase sigma level and reduce rejection rate. Application method and six sigma method analysis with its DMAIC in reducing rejection rate of steel pipe may become a model in six sigma method application in the world of manufacturing industry Keyword :Rejection rate, Six Sigma. Karya tulis ini mengangkat tema improvement untuk menurunkan reject pipa baja dalam rangka meningkatkan kinerja produksi. Kinerja produksi ditentukan oleh banyak faktor seperti mesin, material, budaya kerja, metode kerja dan lain sebagainya. Untuk menurunkan reject pipa baja menggunakan tools improvement dengan metode six sigma. Six sigma sebagai salah satu pendekatan yang paling dinamis dalam manajemen untuk perbaikan proses dan kualitas produk. Aplikasi metodologi six sigma memiliki enam phase yaitu Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve dan Control (DMAIC). Aplikasi metodologi six sigma ini dilakukan di industri baja yaitu PT. Bakrie Pipe Industries di Plant Mesin KT 24 untuk mengurangi reject pipa baja (rejection rate) yang terjadi dalam rangka meningkatkan yield dan efisiensi bahan baku. Penerapan six sigma dengan metode DMAIC yang didukung oleh ketersedian data yang lengkap dapat menghasilkan perbaikan yang diharapkan. Ketersedian data produksi, data reject pipa baja, data panjang HRC dan data panjang pipa open weld menjadi bahan untuk analisa menentukan faktor penyebab dominan pada phase analyze dengan menggunakan metode regresi. Pada karya tulis ini dilakukan juga perhitungan berat ideal HRC dan optimalisasi pajang reject pipa baja dalam rangka untuk menurunkan rejection rate pada pipa baja. Hasil dari aplikasi metodologi six sigma dalam menurunkan reject pipa baja ini dapat meningkatkan yield produksi, meningkatkan sigma level dan mengurangi rejection rate yang terjadi. Cara penerapan dan analisa metodelogi six sigma dengan DMAIC dalam mengurangi reject pipa baja dapat menjadi referensi penerapan metodologi six sigma dalam dunia industri manufakturing.
