Abstract

Many story books for children are circulating in bookstores, dominated by books with religious, adventure and folklore themes. Comic books with the theme of Indonesian art are lacking, so children do not really know Indonesian art such as wayang. One of the puppets that has a story that is adapted to their era, the wayang punakawan It's good, children are introduced to arts like puppets from an early age so that they know how rich the country will be in art while preserving the arts and culture. Data collection techniques in this design use qualitative data collection types. The author collected data through direct observation at the Jakarta Puppet Museum, searching books related to Punakawan puppets and looking for additional references for similar supplementary data. The concept used by the author is to change the original appearance of the wayak punakawan shadow puppets into the form of illustrations in the cartoon style. The benefits of designing a puppet illustrated story book in addition to increasing children's interest in reading books, also introducing one of the arts and culture in Indonesia, namely wayang punakawan. Therefore this book is designed by considering things that can attract the attention of children such as layouts, good puppet illustrations, and the color selection of books. Key Word: Book Illustration, Punakawan Puppet, Tradisional Art Banyak buku cerita bergambar untuk anak yang beredar di toko-toko buku, didominasi dengan buku yang bertemakan keagamaan, petualangan, dan cerita rakyat. Buku cergam yang bertemakan kesenian Indonesia sangat kurang, sehingga anak tidak begitu mengenal kesenian Indonesia seperti wayang. Salah satu wayang yang memiliki cerita yang disesuaikan dengan jamannya yaitu wayang punakawan. Ada baiknya, anak diperkenalkan kesenian seperti wayang sejak dini agar mereka tau betapa kaya negerinya akan kesenian sekaligus menjaga kesenian dan kebudayaan tersebut. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam perancangan ini memakai jenis pengumpulan data kualitatif. Penulis mengumpulkan data melalui observasi langsung di Museum Wayang Jakarta, pencarian buku terkait dengan wayang Punakawan dan mencari referensi tambahan untuk data pelengkap yang sejenis. Konsep yang digunakan penulis adalah dengan mengubah rupa asli rupa wayang kulit punakawan kedalam bentuk ilustrasi dengan gaya kartun. Manfaat perancangan buku cerita bergambar wayang punawakan ini selain untuk menambah minat baca anak terhadap buku, juga mengenalkan salah satu kesenian dan budaya yang ada di Indonesia yakni wayang punakawan. Oleh karena itu buku ini dirancang dengan mempertimbangkan hal-hal yang dapat menarik perhatian anak seperti layout, ilustrasi wayang yang baik, dan pemilihan warna buku.
