Abstract

Media transmisi Kabel, radio microwave dan fiber optik tidak dapat memenuhi seluruh kebutuhan backhaul GSM yang menghubungkan BTS dengan BSC, BSC dengan MSC atau antar MSC. Hal ini dikarenakan wilayah Indonesia yang sangat luas 1,9 juta km persegi dan terdiri dari pulau-pulau mencapai 17 ribu pulau. Media transmisi satelit adalah solusi yang tepat digunakan jika media transmisi lain tidak tersedia. Kebutuhan backhaul GSM melalui satelit ini merupakan lahan bisnis yang menarik bagi perusahaan penyedia jasa layanan backhaul. Operator GSM di Indonesia yang dengan intensif memperluas layanan sampai ke derah rural hanya 3 operator besar, sedangkan penyedia jasa layanan backhaul GSM melalui satelit setidaknya ada 8 perusahaan. Untuk memenangkan atau memperoleh keuntungan bagi penyedia jasa diperlukan analisa kondisi bisnis, analisa berbagai ancaman dan tekanan dari industri. Dengan demikian dapat ditentukan strategi bisnis yang tepat untuk memenangkan kompetisi dalam industri ini. Tesis ini menganalisa mengenai kondisi tekanan dan ancaman serta strategi bisnis industri penyedia jasa layanan backhaul GSM melalui satelit dengan menggunakan metode Porter 5 forces. Media transmission such as cables, microwave radio and fiber optics cannot meet all the needs of GSM backhaul that connects the BTS to BSC, BSC with the MSC or inter-MSC. This is because Indonesia is a very broad area of 1.9 million square kilometers and consists of the islands reaches 17 thousand islands. Satellite transmission media is the appropriate solution is used if no other transmission media available. Needs of GSM backhaul over satellite is an attractive business area for the firm backhaul service providers. GSM operator in Indonesia that with intensive extend services to rural areas only three major operators, while the GSM backhaul service provider via satellite at least there are 8 companies. To win or obtain the benefits for service providers required analysis of business conditions, analyze the various threats and pressures from the industry, to determine appropriate business strategies to win the competition in this industry. This thesis analyzes the conditions of pressure and threats and provider of industry business strategy GSM backhaul services via satellite by using Porter's 5 forces.
