Abstract

Indonesia is a Mega Biodiversity country in the world, blessed with biodiversity and a very high level of endemism. One of Indonesia's endemic species is the Sumatran elephant. According to the international conservation organization IUCN, the Sumatran Elephant is in the Critically Endangered category. In 2019, it is estimated that there are only around 928-1,379 individuals. This population decline is caused by several things, most of which are due to human activities. A study says that conflict between elephants and humans causes a negative human perspective on elephants, this arises because of the low level of education. Along with the development of technology, the media for disseminating information is also developing, one of which is through video. In Indonesia itself, there are many platforms that provide educational videos, but based on the author's observations, there are no educational videos with animated media that discuss the extinction of this elephant. This design aims to educate the public about the extinction of endemic animals in Indonesia, starting with the Sumatran Elephant, with the aim that people are aware of the importance of preserving these endemic animals so that their existence can be maintained. Keywords: Explainer Video, Animation, Endemic, Sumatran Elephants, Endangered Indonesia merupakan negara Mega Biodiversity di dunia, dikaruniai keanekaragaman hayati serta tingkat endemisme yang sangat tinggi. Salah satu spesies endemik Indonesia adalah Gajah Sumatera. Menurut organisasi konservasi internasional IUCN, Gajah Sumatera masuk ke dalam kategori Critically Endangered. Pada tahun 2019, diperkirakan hanya ada sekitar 928-1.379 ekor. Penurunan populasi ini disebabkan oleh beberapa hal, sebagian besar penyebabnya adalah karena perbuatan manusia. Sebuah penelitian mengatakan bahwa konflik antara gajah dengan manusia menyebabkan perspektif negatif manusia terhadap gajah, hal ini timbul karena tingkat pendidikan yang rendah. Seiring dengan berkembangnya teknologi, media untuk menyebarkan informasi pun juga ikut berkembang, salah satunya adalah melalui video. Di Indonesia sendiri sudah banyak platform yang menyediakan video-video yang mengedukasi, namun berdasarkan hasil observasi penulis tidak menemukan adanya video edukasi dengan media animasi yang membahas tentang kepunahan gajah ini. Perancangan ini bertujuan untuk mengedukasi masyarakat tentang kepunahan hewan-hewan endemik Indonesia, diawali dengan Gajah Sumatera, dengan tujuan agar masyarakat sadar akan pentingnya melestarikan hewan endemik ini sehingga eksistensi mereka dapat terjaga.
