Abstract

In this era, there are more variations of diesel fuel are available for diesel vehicle users in Indonesia. One of the newest is biodiesel fuel which is developed for energy security and domestic needs. Different fuel characteristics will certainly affect the performance of diesel engines. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of diesel fuel on the performance of diesel engines, especially in terms of efficiency of diesel fuel consumption. The study was conducted using two types of variables, namely variations in diesel fuel and engine rpm. Diesel fuels that is used are biodiesel, dexlite, and pertamina dex. As for engine rpm variations using engine idle 850 rpm, 1500 rpm, and 2500 rpm. Within a duration of 3 minutes carried out in the test, the results showed that Pertamina dex is the most efficient fuel compared to 2 other fuels, namely the consumption of 8.13 ml / s in total . This is inline with the assumption that higher cetane number of a fuel, then combustion process in a diesel engine will be more perfect. Keywords : fuel, diesel engine performance, eficiency Di era sekarang ini, semakin banyak variasi bahan bakar diesel yang tersedia bagi pengguna kendaraan diesel di Indonesia. Salah satu yang terbaru yaitu bahan bakar biodiesel yang dikembangkan untuk ketahanan energi dan sekaligus kebutuhan di dalam negeri. Karakteristik bahan bakar yang berbeda tentunya akan berpengaruh kepada performa mesin diesel. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan bahan bakar diesel pada performa mesin diesel, terutama dari sisi efisiensi konsumsi bahan bakar diesel. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan dua jenis variabel, yaitu variasi bahan bakar dan variasi putaran mesin. Bahan bakar yang digunakan yaitu biodiesel, dexlite, dan pertamina dex. Sedangkan untuk variasi putaran mesin menggunakan putaran mesin sebesar putaran idle 850 rpm, putaran sedang 1500 rpm, dan putaran tinggi 2500 rpm. Dalam durasi waktu 3 menit yang dilakukan dalam pengujian diperoleh hasil bahwa pertamina dex merupakan bahan bakar yang paling efisien dibanding 2 bahan bakar lain, yaitu dengan konsumsi total 8,13 ml/s. Hal ini sejalan dengan asumsi bahwa semakin tinggi angka cetana suatu bahan bakar, maka proses pembakaran dalam mesin diesel akan semakin sempurna.
