Abstract

This research was aimed to determine the description of coping stress strategy of gay men with HIV Positive. The respondents are gay men around 24-35 years who infected HIV Positive for one year or more. The type of research use qualitative approach, with sample of five gay men. The method used in this research is non-partisipant observation and open interview method. This research focused on coping stress strategies of gay men with HIV Positive. Coping stress strategies we are discussed here is how gay men try to cope with their status as gay men and gay men with HIV status. Coping stress strategies that they do are based problem focused coping and emotional focused coping. The results of this reserch showed that gay men did both problem focused coping and emotional coping to cope their status as HIV Positive. Keywords: Coping Stress, Gay, HIV Positive Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran Coping Stress pada Gay yang mengidap HIV Positif. Responden yang digunakan pria gay usia 24-35 yang didiagnosa mengidap HIV Positif selama setahun atau lebih. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif, dengan jumlah sampel lima orang. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode observasi non-partispatif dan metode wawancara terbuka dengan pedoman wawancara. Penelitian ini berfokus kepada gambaran Coping Stress yang dilakukan oleh pria gay yang mengidap HIV positif. Coping Stress yang dimaksudkan adalah bagaimana gay mencoba mengatasi stress yang mereka alami akibat status mereka sebagai seorang gay dan gay yang didiagnosa mengidap HIV Positif. Coping stress dilakukan dengan cara problem focused coping dan emotional focused coping. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa gay yang mengidap HIV positif melakukan pendekatan dua coping tersebut.
