Abstract
In the present time the need for electrical energy is increasing every year. It is directly proportional to the increasing number of customers such as offices, schools, housing and industry. Therefore, reliable and efficient electricity distribution is needed. When channeling electrical energy that is used to serve electrical loads such as electric motors, transformers, TL lamps and also equipment that has a wire (inductor), resulting in the use of high inductive loads has the potential to reduce the value of the power factor (cos φ) is the value of the active power comparison and real power. To reduce the low power factor value, it is necessary to install a device that functions to reduce the reactive power value so that the power factor produced is not less than the standard value set by the electricity network service provider. In general, to improve the power factor used is the capacitor bank. Then, the capacity capacitor needs will be tailored to customer needs. Before installing a capacitor at a customer's installation, it is necessary to calculate the capacitor capacity to be used in order to achieve the power factor determined by the PLN. From the results of the data obtained before the improvement of cos phi 7 to 0.99, here we need a variable stack capacitor with 1 capacitor with a capacity of 1 kVAR and 12 pieces with each variable capacitor with a capacity of 5 kVAR. With the need for 13 capacitors with different capacities, it is expected to meet the needs of large reactive power. After making improvements to the power factor, a reduction of losses from 157.4 Watt to 94.6 Watt is obtained. After doing the calculations, and conclude the value of the capacitor that will be used to improve the power factor of industrial customers. So that it is expected to be able to increase the value of the efficient use of electrical energy and increase the cos phi of these customers.
