Abstract

In the steel industry, coil is a high commodity and has a high demand, especially consumers of the Automotive industry. To produce automotive steel, it must have good surface quality. One of the surface defects that often occurs is coil break. Coil breaks occur due to spike height and Yield Point Elongation (YPE) which are indicated to occur due to inappropriate process parameters. This study aims to identify the causes of coil break that occur in the Hot Rolled Coil product production process and determine the appropriate precautions to minimize claims that often occur. This research uses quantitative methods that begin with conducting field studies and literature studies for data collection. Furthermore, the research sample is selected for tensile testing, hardness testing and metallography to identify the causes of coil break. The data from the test results will then be analyzed. From the analysis of the effect of finishing temperature and coiling temperature on coil break defects, it can be concluded that the occurrence of coil break is a phenomenon of spike height and yield point elongation and the tensile test data shows that there is a spike height of 20 MPa and a yield point elongation of 3% strain. These results fall into the medium category on the level of coil break damage. This is due to the influence of temperature that is too high, namely at the finishing temperature of 8640C-9000C and coiling temperature of 6950C-6750C. Then the suggestion that can be given is to reduce the value of the finishing temperature at 8400C and the coiling temperature at 6500C to prevent coil break. Dalam industri baja, coil merupakan komoditas yang tinggi dan memiliki permintaan yang tinggi khususnya konsumen industri Otomotif. Untuk memproduksi baja otomotif harus memiliki kualitas permukaan yang baik. Salah satu cacat permukaan yang sering terjadi adalah coil break. Coil break terjadi akibat spike height dan Yield Point Elongation (YPE) yang diindikasikan terjadi karena parameter proses yang tidak sesuai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi penyebab coil break yang terjadi pada proses produksi produk Hot Rolled Coil dan menentukan tindakan pencegahan yang tepat untuk meminimalkan klaim yang sering terjadi. Penelitian menggunakan metode kuantitatif yang diawali dengan melakukan studi lapang dan studi literatur untuk pengumpulan data. Selanjutnya dilakukan pemilihan sample penelitian untuk dilakukan pengujian tarik, pengujian kekerasan dan metalografi untuk mengidentifikasi penyebab terjadinya coil break. Data hasil pengujian selanjutnya akan dilakukan analisis. Dari hasil analisis tentang pengaruh finishing temperatur dan coiling temperatur pada cacat coil break maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa terjadinya coil break adalah fenomena spike height dan yield point elongation dan data hasil pengujian tarik menunjukkan terdapat spike height sebesar 20 MPa dan yield point elongation sebesar 3% strain. Hasil tersebut masuk dalam kategori medium pada tingkat kerusakan coil break. Hal ini disebabkan karena pengaruh temperatur yang terlalu tinggi yaitu pada finishing temperatur 8640C-9000C dan coiling temperatur 6950C -6750C. Lalu saran yang dapat diberikan adalah dengan meurunkan nilai finishing temperature pada 8400C dan coiling temperature pada 6500C untuk mencegah terjadinya coil break.
