Abstract

Plastic waste is a serious environmental problem faced by people around the world. One of the efforts that can be done to reduce plastic waste is to build awareness and potential human resources in Indonesia, especially the young generation through a sustainable education system. The young generation who is quite closely related to this plastic waste is the children of the scavenger families. One of the learning methods that suits the background is the nature school, the type of school that can attract students to be more freely active and creative. Through the application of sustainable design concepts in the design of the interior of the school, such as the utilization of waste plastic and the approach on natural materials that are identical with environmentally friendly, bamboo, is expected to increase awareness about environmental issues to student. Keywords: Bamboo, Interior, Plastic Waste, School, Sustainable Design Sampah plastik merupakan permasalahan lingkungan hidup yang cukup serius dan dihadapi oleh masyarakat Indonesia maupun dunia. Salah satu usaha yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengurangi limbah plastik yaitu membangun kesadaran serta potensi sumber daya manusia yang ada di Indonesia, khususnya para generasi muda melalui sistem pendidikan yang berkelanjutan. Generasi muda yang cukup erat kaitannya dengan limbah plastik ini ialah anak-anak dari keluarga pemulung. Salah satu metode pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan latar belakang tersebut adalah sekolah alam, jenis sekolah yang dapat menarik minat para siswa untuk lebih bebas aktif dan kreatif. Melalui penerapan konsep desain berkelanjutan pada perancangan interior sekolahnya, seperti pemanfaatan limbah plastik dan pendekatan pada material alam yang identik dengan ramah lingkungan, yaitu bambu, diharapkan dapat memupuk kepedulian peserta didik terhadap isu lingkungan.
