Abstract
Semaphore is a nonverbal communication system based on hand-gesture signaling that has become increasingly unfamiliar to younger generations. To reintroduce semaphore in a more engaging way, this study develops SemaPlay, an Android based educational game that integrates gesture detection and prediction models. The application utilizes the device camera to capture user hand movements, which are processed in real-time using a TensorFlow Lite model. The application is developed using the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) architecture and Jetpack Compose to ensure modularity, responsiveness, and scalability. The game provides two main modes: a single-player challenge mode and a multi-player competitive mode synchronized through Firebase Realtime Database. Initial testing shows that the gesture detection model runs stably on mid-range Android devices with responsive gameplay interaction. Therefore, SemaPlay has the potential to serve as an effective interactive learning medium for semaphore while demonstrating the application of computer vision in educational games.
