Abstract
This study analyzes the effect of Nickel substitution (x = 0; 0.05; 0.2; and 0.5) on the Full Heusler alloy Fe₂CrAl₁₋ₓNiₓ in RO water and 3.5% NaCl media using Tafel Polarization, Chronoamperometry (CA), and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). Quantitative results indicate that the specimen without Nickel (x = 0) exhibits superior corrosion resistance, characterized by the lowest corrosion rates (0.0037 mmPY in RO water and 0.0185 mmPY in 3.5% NaCl), the highest polarization resistance (Rp) values (22,977 Ω and 11,654 Ω), and the lowest diffusion coefficient (D). Conversely, increasing the Ni content to x = 0.5 in chloride media triggers an extreme surge in the corrosion rate, reaching 13.413 mmPY. Qualitatively, the addition of Ni impairs passivation resistance; low Ni content (x = 0.05) induces a d-band center shift that increases surface reactivity, whereas high Ni content (x = 0.5) causes Chromium (Cr) depletion and accelerates the penetration of Cl⁻ ions, thereby damaging the passive layer. In conclusion, the pure Fe₂CrAl alloy (x = 0) represents the most optimal and corrosion-stable composition.
