Abstract

The high accumulation of household organic waste remains a major challenge in environmental management, particularly because most waste is still treated using conventional methods. This condition underscores the need to develop effective, practical, and sustainable organic waste treatment technologies at a small-scale level, such as Hydrothermal Carbonization (HTC). This study aims to evaluate the effect of HTC processing time on yield, moisture content, and ash content of Hydrochar produced from household organic waste. The HTC process was conducted using nine experimental variations of raw material composition with reaction times of 30, 60, and 90 minutes. The results of the proximate analysis indicated that the highest yield, exceeding 86%, was achieved in the seventh experiment, suggesting that a higher yield corresponds to greater Hydrochar production. In addition, the lowest moisture content (24,34%) was observed in the sixth experiment, attributed to the higher protein and carbohydrate content of the feedstock compared to vegetable and fruit residues. The lowest ash content (24.31%) was obtained in the eighth experiment, which was associated with a higher proportion of eggshells in the raw material composition. Keywords: Hydrothermal Carbonization, Hydrochar, Household Organic Waste, Yield, Moisture, Ash, Energy Tingginya timbunan sampah organik rumah tangga masih menjadi permasalahan utama dalam pengelolaan lingkungan, terutama karena sebagian besar masih ditangani dengan metode konvensional. Kondisi ini mendorong perlunya pengembangan metode pengolahan sampah organik yang efektif, praktis, dan berkelanjutan pada skala sederhana kecil yaitu Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh variasi waktu proses HTC terhadap yield¸kadar air (moisture), dan kadar abu (ash) pada Hydrochar yang dihasilkan dari sampah organik rumah tangga. Proses HTC dilakukan dengan 9 variasi percobaan jenis bahan baku dengan waktu 30,60, dan 90 menit dengan reaktor sederhana panci presto yang sudah dimodifikasi. Hasil terbaik dari anlisis karakteristik dasar dari nilai Yield sebesar >86% pada percobaan ke-7 yang dimana jika semakin tinggi nilai Yield maka semakin banyak produk yang di hasilkan yaitu Hydrochar, selanjutnya moisture paling rendah dengan nilai 24,34% pada percobaan ke-6 dikarenakan bahan baku lebih banyak protein dengan karbohidrat dibandingankan dengan sayur dan potongan buah yang lebih sedikit, dan Ash mendapatkan paling rendah dengan nilai 24,31% pada percobaan ke-8 karena cangkang telur pada bahan baku lebih banyak.
