Abstract
The rapid growth of TikTok as the most popular social media platform among Generation Z has led to the emergence of the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) phenomenon, which drives changes in behavior and lifestyle. This study aims to determine the extent to which FOMO influences the lifestyle of students from the Faculty of Communication Science at Universitas Mercu Buana, who are active TikTok users. Previous studies indicate a research gap in examining FOMO directly in relation to lifestyle. Therefore, this study employs FOMO Theory (Comparison with Friends, Being Left Out, Missed Experiences, Compulsion), Lifestyle Theory (Activities, Interest, Opinions), and Social Influence Theory (Compliance, Identification, Internalization) to explain how social pressure, self-comparison, and the urge to follow TikTok trends can shape students’ activities, interests, and opinions. This research uses a quantitative approach through a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed to 93 respondents selected using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using validity tests, reliability tests, normality tests, correlation coefficients, simple linear regression, the coefficient of determination, as well as ttests and F-tests to measure the influence of FOMO on lifestyle. The results of the study indicate that FOMO has a significant influence on the lifestyles of FIKOM UMB students. A determination value of 63.8% indicates that students' lifestyles are influenced by their FOMO levels, while the remaining 36.2% is influenced by other factors, such as their environment, personality, and other forms of media consumption. These findings confirm that FOMO on TikTok plays a significant role in shaping students' lifestyles, activity choices, and preferences. Keywords: Fear of Missing Out, FOMO, Lifestyle, Generation Z, TikTok, Social Influence Theory, Social Media. Kata Kunci: Fear of Missing Out, FOMO, Gaya hidup, Generasi Z, TikTok, Social Influence Theory, Media Sosial.
