Abstract

This writing is titled "Cinematography Techniques in the Feature Program 'Going Traveling' Episode: Mentawai Tribe". This writing aims to explore filming strategies that can effectively capture the cultural essence and natural beauty of the Mentawai Tribe, thereby providing a deep and educational visual experience for the audience. This travel feature program is designed as a visual communication medium to introduce the cultural richness and beauty of Siberut Island, particularly the Mentawai people, to a wide audience. The feature production approach involves three main stages: literature study to understand the theory of cinematography and visual communication, direct field observation to get a real picture of the Mentawai community's life, and interviews with local customary leaders and the community. This writing also refers to the theory of the Five C’s of Cinematography (Camera Angles, Continuity, Cutting, Close-Up, Composition) as the main guide in visual design. The use of appropriate cinematographic techniques, such as aerial shots, close-ups, and the rule of thirds to create visually appealing compositions, can enhance the quality of visual storytelling. Furthermore, an approach that is sensitive to local culture has proven to be very important in maintaining authenticity and respect for the documented traditions. This work is expected to contribute to the academic world as a reference in the study of cinematography and the production of culture-based programs. In addition, this work can also be used as a means of promoting tourism that supports the preservation of local culture, particularly the Mentawai Tribe, while also strengthening Indonesia's image as a country with rich cultural diversity. Keywords: Mentawai Tribe, cinematography, feature program, culture, filming.
