Abstract
The issue in this research arises from the phenomenon of a high tendency toward emotional dependency among early adult women. Factors suspected to play a role in the development of emotional dependency are attachment, which is formed since childhood, and father involvement in the child’s life. This study aims to examine the relationship between attachment and father involvement with emotional dependency among early adult women who are in romantic relationships. The research method employed was quantitative correlational, with a total of 248 female respondents aged 18–25 years residing in the JABODETABEK area. The instruments used in this study were the Adult Attachment Scale (AAS), Father Involvement Scale (FIS), and Cuestionario de Dependencia Emocional (CDE). The results showed that respondents had high average scores on attachment (M = 30.12; SD = 1.839), father involvement (M = 34.20; SD = 4.864), and emotional dependency (M = 95.71; SD = 3.730). Hypothesis testing revealed a significant positive relationship between attachment and emotional dependency (r = 0.308; p < 0.05), as well as a significant negative relationship between father involvement and emotional dependency (r = -0.232; p < 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that the higher the quality of an individual’s attachment, the greater the tendency for emotional dependency on a partner, while the higher the father’s involvement, the lower the level of emotional dependency.
