Abstract
Films have the ability to educate and influence the thoughts and actions of the audience. Moral-themed films often have beautifully packaged messages. They use depictions through story, dialogue, strong visuals to convey these messages to their audience. The purpose of this research is to find out the construction of character assassination of Prani character in Budi Pekerti film. The main theory used is mass media reality construction, which explains how the media shapes public perception of social reality. This research uses a qualitative approach with the Gamson and Modigliani framing analysis method by analysing four main scene units that illustrate the process of killing the character of Prani. The results showed that the film ‘Budi Pekerti’ framed Prani as a victim who experienced social, psychological, and professional crisis as a result of digital culture and public pressure. Framing devices such as metaphors, catchphrases, depictions, exemplars, and visual images are used effectively to display the devastation experienced by Prani. Reasoning devices such as roots, consequences, and appeals to principle show that character assassination occurs due to society's failure to verify information, as well as the loss of reconciliation space. This film illustrates the phenomenon of cancel culture and its impact on individual lives. Film bertemakan moral seringkali memiliki pesan yang dikemas dengan indah. Mereka menggunakan penggambaran melalui cerita, dialog, visual yang kuat untuk menyampaikan pesan-pesan ini kepada audiensnya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui konstruksi pembunuhan karakter tokoh Prani dalam film Budi Pekerti. Teori utama yang digunakan adalah konstruksi realitas media massa, yang menjelaskan bagaimana media membentuk persepsi publik terhadap realitas sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis framing model Gamson dan Modigliani dengan menganalisis empat unit adegan utama yang menggambarkan proses pembunuhan karakter tokoh Prani. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa film "Budi Pekerti" membingkai tokoh Prani sebagai sosok korban yang mengalami krisis sosial, psikologis, dan profesional sebagai akibat dari budaya digital dan tekanan publik. Framing devices seperti metaphors, catchphrases, depictions, exemplars, dan visual images digunakan secara efektif untuk menampilkan kehancuran yang dialami Prani. Reasoning devices seperti roots, consequences, dan appeals to principle menunjukkan bahwa pembunuhan karakter terjadi karena kegagalan masyarakat dalam melakukan verifikasi informasi, serta hilangnya ruang rekonsiliasi.
