Abstract
The research sample consisted of 451 active students from both regular and employee classes. The hypothesis testing results revealed that happiness plays a significant role in reducing academic stress levels, thus confirming H1. Conversely, gratitude did not show a significant role in academic stress, leading to the rejection of H2. However, when tested simultaneously, both variables still demonstrated a significant role in academic stress, thereby confirming H3. This unique finding highlights that students at Mercu Buana University, Jakarta, experienced a decrease in academic stress from a high to a moderate category (67.2%). Academic stress was more prevalent among female students, younger students, and those in the middle semesters. A high level of happiness (71.2%) served as the main protective factor against stress, while gratitude, which was at a moderate level (52.8%), tended to remain stable and was not influenced by demographic factors. These results emphasize that increasing happiness plays a greater role in reducing academic stress compared to gratitude, which is more relevant for supporting overall psychological well-being. Although the simultaneous role of both variables remains significant, the dominance of happiness suggests a strategic direction for psychological interventions within the campus environment. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 451 mahasiswa aktif dari kelas reguler dan kelas karyawan. Hasil uji hipotesis menunjukkan bahwa happiness berperan signifikan dalam menurunkan tingkat stres akademik, sehingga H1 terkonfirmasi. Sebaliknya, gratitude tidak menunjukkan peran signifikan terhadap stres akademik, sehingga H2 ditolak. Namun, keduanya secara simultan tetap memiliki peran signifikan terhadap stres akademik, sehingga H3 terkonfirmasi. Kekhasan temuan ini menyoroti bahwa mahasiswa Universitas Mercu Buana Jakarta mengalami penurunan stres akademik dari kategori tinggi menjadi sedang (67,2%). Stres akademik lebih banyak dialami oleh mahasiswa perempuan, usia muda, dan pada semester pertengahan. Tingkat happiness yang tinggi (71,2%) berperan sebagai pelindung utama terhadap stres, sementara gratitude yang berada pada tingkat sedang (52,8%) cenderung stabil dan tidak dipengaruhi oleh faktor demografis. Hasil ini menegaskan bahwa peningkatan kebahagiaan memiliki peran lebih besar dalam mereduksi stres akademik dibandingkan dengan kebersyukuran, yang lebih relevan dalam mendukung kesejahteraan psikologis secara umum. Peran simultan keduanya tetap signifikan, namun dominasi kebahagiaan menunjukkan arah strategis bagi intervensi psikologis pada lingkungan kampus.
