Abstract
This study aims to analyze how the culture of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) is represented in the film Agak Laen (2024) using Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic approach. As a medium of mass communication, film plays a crucial role in shaping and conveying cultural values to society. Agak Laen, a comedy-horror film that has attracted millions of viewers, was chosen for its strong portrayal of gotong royong practices in Indonesian society through its narrative and character interactions. This research employs a qualitative method with a Saussurean semiotic approach, which views a sign as a relationship between the signifier and the signified. Data were collected through observations of the film’s cinematic and narrative elements, such as dialogue, visuals, and symbolic scenes that reflect the value of gotong royong. The findings reveal that Agak Laen represents gotong royong not only as physical cooperation but also as a form of social solidarity, mutual care among friends, and collective problem-solving. These representations appear in various visual and verbal signs that construct the collective meaning of Indonesian cultural identity. The film successfully reproduces local values in a popular entertainment format while educating the younger generation on the importance of social collaboration amidst modern-day challenges. Keywords: Representation, Gotong Royong, Film, Semiotics, Ferdinand de Saussure, Agak Laen Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana budaya gotong royong direpresentasikan dalam film Agak Laen (2024) melalui pendekatan semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure. Film sebagai media komunikasi massa memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk dan menyampaikan nilai-nilai budaya kepada masyarakat. Agak Laen, sebagai film bergenre komedi-horor yang meraih jutaan penonton, dipilih karena merepresentasikan praktik gotong royong dalam kehidupan masyarakat Indonesia melalui narasi dan interaksi antartokoh. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan semiotika Saussure yang memandang tanda sebagai relasi antara penanda (signifier) dan petanda (signified).Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi terhadap elemen sinematik dan naratif dalam film, seperti dialog, visual, dan adegan simbolik yang mencerminkan nilai gotong royong. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Agak Laen menampilkan gotong royong tidak hanya sebagai kerja fisik bersama, tetapi juga sebagai bentuk solidaritas sosial, kepedulian antarteman, dan cara penyelesaian masalah kolektif. Representasi ini muncul dalam berbagai bentuk tanda visual dan verbal yang mengonstruksi makna kolektif budaya Indonesia. Film ini berhasil mereproduksi nilai-nilai lokal dalam format hiburan populer, sekaligus mengedukasi generasi muda tentang pentingnya kolaborasi sosial di tengah tantangan kehidupan modern.
