Abstract
Fenomena kecemasan berbicara di depan publik banyak dialami oleh siswa SMA, terutama ketika harus tampil di kelas, menyampaikan pendapat, atau presentasi di hadapan guru dan teman sebaya. Kondisi ini sering ditandai dengan gejala fisik seperti gemetar, gugup, dan sulit berkonsentrasi, yang pada akhirnya dapat menghambat prestasi akademik maupun perkembangan sosial siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara self-esteem dengan kecemasan berbicara di depan publik pada siswa/i SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Jakarta. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode korelasional. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 202 responden yang diperoleh melalui teknik accidental sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) untuk mengukur self-esteem dan Public Speaking Anxiety Scale dari Clevenger & Halvorson untuk mengukur kecemasan berbicara di depan publik. Berdasarkan hasil uji korelasi Rank Spearman, diperoleh koefisien korelasi sebesar r = 0,474 dengan signifikansi p < 0,001, yang menunjukkan adanya hubungan cukup kuat dan signifikan secara positif antara self-esteem dengan kecemasan berbicara di depan publik. Selain itu, hasil uji beda menunjukkan bahwa faktor kelas berpengaruh signifikan terhadap variasi tingkat self-esteem maupun kecemasan berbicara siswa, sedangkan perbedaan berdasarkan jenis kelamin dan usia tidak menunjukkan hasil yang signifikan. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa selain faktor individu, lingkungan kelas turut berperan dalam membentuk kondisi psikologis siswa. Public speaking is a common problem among high school students, especially when they have to perform in class, express their opinions, or present in front of teachers and peers. This condition is often characterized by physical symptoms such as trembling, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating, which can ultimately hinder students' academic achievement and social development. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and public speaking anxiety among students at Muhammadiyah 1 High School, Jakarta. The study used a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The research sample consisted of 202 respondents obtained through the Accidental Sampling technique. The instruments used were the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) to measure self-esteem and the Public Speaking Anxiety Scale from Clevenger & Halvorson to measure public speaking anxiety. Based on the results of the Spearman Rank correlation test, a correlation coefficient of r = 0.474 was obtained with a significance of p < 0.001, indicating a fairly strong and positive significant relationship between self-esteem and public speaking anxiety. In addition, the results of different tests showed that class factors significantly influenced variations in the levels of self-esteem and speaking anxiety of students, while differences based on gender and age did not show significant results. This finding confirms that apart from individual factors, the classroom environment also plays a role in shaping students' psychological conditions.
