Abstract
Education is a fundamental right of every individual and serves as a fundamental aspect of sustainable development. Literacy, as an integral part of education, plays a crucial role in shaping a society that is critical, equitable, and participatory. However, the 2022 PISA results indicate that the reading literacy level of Indonesian students remains below average. In South Jakarta, although it has been recorded as the highest reading interest in DKI Jakarta compared to other cities, the Community Literacy Development Index (IPLM) score is still relatively low. This condition highlights the urgent need to improve the quality of public literacy facilities. Amidst technological advancement and the digital era, libraries are no longer merely repositories of books but are expected to serve as centers of social, educational, and even well-being activities for the community. This design aims to establish a public library in South Jakarta that functions not only as a place for reading but also as an inclusive public space that supports lifelong learning and the mental well-being of the urban community. The neuro- architecture approach is applied to create a built environment capable of responding to the cognitive, emotional, and social needs of its users. Through the integration of literacy functions and design principles grounded in neuroscience, the library is expected to adapt to the challenges of the digital era while enhancing the overall spatial experience of its visitors. Keywords: literacy, public library, neuroarchitecture, digital era, cognitive. Pendidikan merupakan hak dasar setiap individu dan menjadi dasar utama dalam pembangunan berkelanjutan. Literasi, sebagai bagian integral dari pendidikan, memiliki peran penting dalam menciptakan masyarakat yang berpikir kritis, setara, dan partisipatif. Namun, hasil PISA 2022 menunjukkan bahwa tingkat literasi baca siswa Indonesia masih berada di bawah rata-rata. Fenomena di Jakarta Selatan menunjukkan sebagai Kabupaten/Kota dengan tingkat kegemaran membaca tertinggi di DKI Jakarta, namun skor Indeks Pembangunan Literasi Masyarakat (IPLM) masih tergolong rendah. Hal ini menunjukkan perlunya peningkatan kualitas fasilitas literasi publik. Di tengah perkembangan teknologi dan era digital, perpustakaan tidak lagi berperan sebagai tempat penyimpanan buku semata, melainkan dituntut menjadi pusat aktivitas sosial, edukatif, dan mental masyarakat. Perancangan ini bertujuan untuk menghadirkan perpustakaan umum di Jakarta Selatan yang tidak hanya sebagai tempat membaca, tetapi juga sebagai ruang publik inklusif yang mendukung pembelajaran sepanjang hayat dan kesehatan mental masyarakat urban. Pendekatan neuroarsitektur diterapkan untuk menciptakan lingkungan binaan yang mampu merespons kebutuhan kognitif, emosional, dan sosial penggunanya. Melalui integrasi antara fungsi literasi dan prinsip desain berbasis ilmu saraf, perpustakaan ini diharapkan mampu beradaptasi terhadap tantangan era digital dan meningkatkan kualitas pengalaman ruang pengunjung secara menyeluruh.
